If the weights are all the way at the bottom you need to lift them back up as you pull the chains down one weight at a time. Then just start the pendulum swinging.

SOURCE: the time and chimes are out of sync for our tempus

Turn the minute hand until the 16 westminster chime operate and then the hour strikes. Remove the minute hand and simple put it back on at the 12 o-clock position. The chimes should now be in sync.

SOURCE: I want to know how to set the time on a tall

I have 2 GF clocks....
To set the time, first be sure the clock is wound (weights are in the up position). Next, be sure that the pendulum is operating.... The "click, click" sound should be spaced about evenly. If not, then change the height adjustment of the feet to make the clock level...then the click will even out. Next, using only your finger, gently move the minute hand in a CLOCKWISE direction until you have set the time. You MAY wish to allow the chimes to sound at each quarter or half hour mark as you rotate the minute hand - but it is not necessary. Just keep rotating the minute hand - and the sounders will catch up and chime correctly.

SOURCE: tempus fugit westminster mantle battery operated

I had the same problem but the solution is unbelievably simple. Just set the hands to the time desired by turning the round button on the housing. Now you mmust tell the quartz timer/clock (plastic rectangular mechanism) the same time as you have set the hands. In this way when the hands hit the Quarter hours/half hours and the hours, the electonic chimes will chime the correct time.

Ultra simple. The two hour buttons and two minute buttons represent a 24 hour clock. Example, how to set the clock to 2:50 PM. Easy, change the 2 PM to its 24 hour counterpart, i.e. 14 hundred hours.

Move the hands to 2:55. Push the first button once for 1, push the second button 4 times, push the first M button 5 times, push the second M button 5 times. Move the set button back to run and there you have it. 1455 Hours. Not it should chime correctly. As a tip, use a brand new fresh battery to try this out.

I have a Tempus Fugit grandfather clock - it is chain driven. How can I stop the chimes at night only without stopping the time.

Tempus Fugit isn't a brand but is a little bit of whimsy from a manufacturer who might have produced the clock from generic bought-in parts which is pretty much what folk have been doing all along.
The clock movement would be produced by one company or individual and it would be placed in a cabinet made by somebody else. Traditionally the face or dial would be another mass-produced item that would be engraved with the name of the supplying jeweller or clock maker.

Tempus Fugit or "Time Flies" would seem to be an alternative or an addition to the name of the retailer. Your clock movement might be good quality or not so good and you would need an experienced horologist to give an opinion. Some clock movements have a lever to stop the chimes for night-time. A quality movement would have a lever that will stop the chimes and the quarter hour striking and reduce the volume of the hour strike, unfortunately the lever is often out of sight and you need to move it blind - if there is a lever.

Alternatively a felt sock over the striker - if you can reach it...

Tempus fugit German grandmother clock has a very dull sounding strike on the hour. Is this normal?

Bugs in the bells?? The hammers may also be out of alignment and are staying ON the bell rather that doing a "strike." If there are small screws on, at or near the hammers, or the mechanism that attaches to the hammers. make SMALL adjustments each hour or day, writing down what you did to each, until it works properly again.

Good Luck!
