Water gushes out of detergent drawer on my kenmore elite he front load washer. It does not happen every time I do a wash

The problem can be a defective pressure switch. The pressure switch detects water level. Pressure switch not working correctly may result in overfill. Try cleaning the rubber hose connected to the pressure switch. Check also pressure from inlet hose and look for blockage in detergent drawer.

Inside the dispenser drawer, at the bottom there is a tab that you can push down to remove the dispenser drawer. Remove the drawer and check if the dispenser holes are clogged, this is a common cause.

A quick and easy way to find out which tray is which is to pull the detergent drawer out just so that you can see into it. Start a pre-wash and see where the water runs in, then advance to the main wash and observe. Finally start a rinse cycle and where the water goes in is where the conditioner/softener goes.
In a few cases I have come across the pre-wash tray shares with the conditioner/softener part but the pre-wash powder goes in the front and the softener in the back.

Try pulling the drawer out again and look in the hole. Look on the bottom for detergent or softener piled up and allowing the water to come out the door or anything clogging the tube in the back of the hole. Look on the top, there are a bunch of little holes, make sure none of these are clogged, clean with a toothbrush and sewing pin if clogged. Take the drawer completely apart and clean thoroughly, check for any cracks. If nothing is found here Take the lid off with the 3 screws in the back and push the lid toward the back of washer and lift off. Run the washer and check for the leaks with a flashlight. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELECTRICAL. As there is a shock hazard with the lid off.

remove the drawer and clean the siphon it sounds as if it is blocked up either with powder or concentrated fabric softener. this should fill up with water and then empty itself due to gravity. the siphon should look like an upside down cup on a cylinder.

new unit then call for sears warranty, other wise, if you use powder detergent it could be built up if it coming out front.. remove drwr by pressing tab at rear and pulling out. cracked drwr? accumulation in disp asm? or crack in disp asm/housing. approx $100 for dispenser asm. (not drawer)

ck for blockage between dispenser and where it comes into tub just above door have known dry detergent if used not disolve and cake up blocking inlet to tub also be sure drawer is clean and ck above drawer in washer and clean small holes
