Sony STR DE845: rear speakers not working, three fronts are OK.

I moved and am reconnecting the unit. The Rear speakers are not working in any mode. I reset unit to factory specs per the Sony manual instructions... to no avail. I do not have anything connected to the surround inputs. Although I have the Sat/TV, DVD and Video 1 inputs connected. Prior to moving, I discovered the right rear channel not functioning (I noticed the right rear speaker problem after a Direct TV installation tech switched out my Direct TVR. I assumed that it was a loose wire) now it seems neither of the two rear channels are working.I disconnected and reconnected the speaker wires. I ran the onboard "tone" check and the three front speakers function and supply the 'white noise' indication. The rears are silent when the display indicated that they were being tested. Are the rear speakers fuse protected?
Anyone with an idea of what might be going on??

The rear amp is malfunctioning (duh). Take it to a tech for a real diagnosis.

Can't get subwoofer working with sony model STR-DE845 receiver

read the manual

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Sony-STR-DE845-Receivers-manual/id/387ci973/t/2/

First, it must be a self-powered subwoofer, then you've got some settings to select in the receiver.

My reciever turns itself off

You most likey have a wire short on your center or rear surround speakers. The wire short will be between the + and - points of the speaker wire.

To find the problem speaker, disconnect one of the 3 speakers at a time from the back of the sony and see if the problem goes away. Once you identified the offending speaker, check both the sony side and speaker side for the short. The small wire strands are hard to see and it only takes one to trip the protection mode, so look carefully.

I have a Sony STR-DE635. It has a switch on the front for speakers A, B, and A+B. Normal. When I am on speaker A only, it works fine. B does not work. A+B works, but only through the A speakers. Now,...

Check for bad solder connections on the speaker switch or where the speaker switch board connects to another board. Not an uncommon problem with some Sony receivers.

Sony STR de845, 5.1 Surround does not work. 3.2 is indicated o

3.2 IS the "5.1" mode for this receiver. 3.2 is indicating that you have 3 front channels and 2 rear channels. The ".1" is applied to all the speakers (LFE). If you read the manual on page 37, you'll see that "3.2" is displayed with either "Dolby Digital 3.2" or "DTS 3.2". The little icons of the speakers in the display window will show you which channels are active. The bottom line is as long as you see the blue light, it's decoding multi-channel discreet surround sound (at least 5.1).
