My Dell Dimension 4600 will not turn on. Steady Amber Light

My Dell Dimension 4600 will not turn on. I plug it in, and the power light stays orange. I cannot turn the PC off by holding the power button, and nothing shows on the screen. It was working fine yesterday.

    The CMOS battery?

  • Anonymous Sep 03, 2009

    In response to rahulgaikwad:
I don't have any PCI cards installed. Taking the memory out doesn't provide a beep. I think it may be the MOBO. I replaced the CMOS battery to no avail. Thanks though!

Ranilotabuco: I have removed and replaced the DDR333 memory to no avail. Thanks for the advice though.

Dell dimension2400 power light is orange and fan is on machine not working

A steady or Amber blinking power button indicates a low voltage problem. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

Power led light is a steady orange but pc will not power up

Dimension 3100 turns on the power button has a steady orange light there is also an orange light on motherboard cpu and power suplly fans working but wont bot up

Blinking amber (orange) indicates a problem with the power supply inside the computer. If the system cannot boot and there is a solid amber light, this could indicate a problem with the power connections for the CPU on the system board (see "Power Problems" in your Owner's Manual).

The power LED light is orange instead of green and it won't turn on

Hi! for most dell machines if the power led is orange its an indication of a issue with the ram, try to reseat the ram first.if that doesnt work normally for dimension 4600, there are diagnostic lights that are located at the back panel of the machine, they are four bicolor lights(amber and green) You can determine the exact problem by checking these lights and you can interpret them by going to this website: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600/en/4600i/sm/adtshoot.htm#1112886 hope this helps...

Dell Dimension 2400 with steady amber power light and diagnostic lights of ABC green and D off. What could be the problem?

Steady amber power LED is indicative of a problem with the motherboard. Remove all external connections except power, remove all PCI Cards, ram, disconnect power from all drives, turn on see if power LED is still steady amber. If it is, more than likely the motherboard has a failure. Also check to see if the CPU heatsink is firmly seated (The plastic retainer has been known to fail causing the CPU to overheat)

Computer will not turn on

  • Blinking Amber/yellow: Initial state of LED at power up.
Indicates system has power, but the POWER_GOOD signal is not yet active.
If the hard drive LED is off, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced.
If the hard drive LED is on, it is probable that an onboard regulator or VRM has failed.

Dell Dimension 4600 Won't Boot Up, Steady Amber Light is on tower

I have seen with some of the small form factor dell's that there can be a motherboard problem; my expirence with the regular towers and the steady amber light have been power supplies. I have a dimension 9100 that is three years old now and I am on my fourth power supply. I am not sure that you would have one laying around, but in my past expirence its been teh power supply. On the ones that I have seen where it was the motherboard you could clearly see on the chipset where it was damaged from heat (it was burnt). Hope that helps
