Since the belts control the timing of the mechanism, I would not recommend this as a home repair. While relatively simple compared to some, this still is a delicate repair that can easily go wrong. Please bring this unit to an audio repair shop. Expect a parts cost in the $15-$20 range. There are 3 belts inside.

Changing drive belt on nad 6125 cassette deck

You may be lucky enough to find a rubber band that fits. But the quality rubber in a household rubber band is not as good as a belt made for the purpose, and variations in stretch may not affect your broccoli but may be audible in a cassette player. Watch tension and don't put on too tight because it could hurt delicate bearings. I have repaired many items this way also. Bon appetit and good listening! WHERE CAN I GET DRIVE BELT FOR SONY TC-K8B

Typically when I need belts for the service business I operate and the unit is a bit strange or esoteric, I send an E mail to Fred Marrs and he comes up with the kit I need. It may not be the cheapest option but it take all the work out of your part of it. If you want to research the belts and order then individually you can save some money but there might be a lot of work involved.

I have a model TC-WE425. when i turn it on, i get an"--E--" in the display screen and nothing works. the manual says turn it off and then on again but i have done that many times without positive...

Mine did the sane thing. Since I had cassettes in at the time, I noticed that neither turned and I saw an "E" on each display. Figured the belts were broken or something. Unplugged unit and removed the cover. Both belts on each side were stretched out enough so that the wheels would not spin. Each side has 1 flat belt (like a rubber band) and another that is smaller , skinnier and perhaps circular in it's diametric shape (like an o-ring). A repair kit on E-Bay is $16.00 plus shipping and that's if you know how to replace them. A better bet is to go to your local Goodwill store and look at the electronics area. I found the exact deck there 8 years ago and it worked well. It cost me $9.99

I have a sony TC-WR770 twin tape deck. The 1st deck is running with inconsistant speed causeing slurring of sound, also it will not fast forword. Can this be repaired and if so how? or is it now to old.

It could be either a worn roller, but more likely a belt problem. It's often a good idea to replace the belt(s) as the are rubber and wear out easily. They are not expensive either. Drive belts on tape decks are mostly universal. You only need to measure the diameter of each belt in mm and then enter the result in Google as "Cassette drive belt ??mm".
Make a note of how it fits before replacing them, that's if you can do it yourself of course!

Cassette Tape Deck Problem

Unit may have worn belts that are slipping. All cassette player belts are subject to deterioration even if recently installed. You may try ordering the belts yourself and have a service tech install them. The tech that installed belts 9 months ago may have used used belts. Although dishonest, it is common.
