Sad.
Try calling Nikon and asking if they know of any issues.. It's possible (somehow ..hopefully ..unlikely) that they know it's their own fault and will fix it. Nikon does have a reputation to uphold.

Otherwise, it is generally more expensive to have this repaired than to get a replacement. Is possible to find a camera online with perhaps a broken LCD, which may have a good sensor to replace yours with. Ask a local technician the feasibility of this. The sensor in your camera is almost definitely the culprit, although it could just be a flimsy connector.

I have a red line through my photos.

Answer ID 16497 Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? --> With some DSLR cameras, a normally clear LCD screen is used to display Auto Focus area brackets in the viewfinder. When power is supplied to the screen, you may sometimes see a faint vertical line appear in your viewfinder. This is perfectly normal and is just part of the finely etched circuitry used to power and illuminate the liquid crystal segments of the AF area brackets.

Red line on every photo taken with Nikon D40

And your question was?
A new CCD for £128 - that is a total bargain. If you think you can buy a camera half as good as the D40 for RM750 you are deluded... although I agree that the CCD shouldn't have gone in such a short time - I would guess that Nikon UK would have repaired it on good faith - as long as the camera was obviously in otherwise good condition.

Red line

I think the problem is in matrix. Try pixel remaping. Usualy you need make remaping every 1 year. At the botom menu goto "Pixel Remaping" and press.

Red/White Lines On Photos and LCD

HI,

The scren is just displaying the input from the CCD (Digital Sensor that actually takes the picture).. If The pictures were fine, but the screen was funky if you could live with it then there wouldn't be a problem.

Since it's on both the screen AND on your photos it points to there being a fault with the CCD

Given the age of the camera, the cost of a repair I'm afraid it's time for a new camera. there's nothing you can do to fix this yourself.

Sorry for being the bearer of bad tidings.

Red lines

It seems that you have been selecting Panoram view to shoot photos. Go to menu and change the image options and select SHQ or whatever and not panorama. This should solve the problem. Panorama view shows the grid lines all over the screen and it is meant for taking 360 degree panoramic views.
