Wind the old one Upwards till it comes out , To re fit new wick , Guide wick into hole from where old wick came from , then wind downwards to required height,

It possibly could, if the wick is not installed properly. Also, the height mechanism (the control knob and the gears) may have lost it's tension and will need to replaced.

However, without knowing what brand/manufacturer and model number kerosene heater you have, there's not much more I can tell you.

Actually, Ami there's know way to know for sure, unless you cross referenced the Part/Item number for the wick with what Corona requires.

You need a pair of Pliers, a flat-tip screwdriver and a plastic bag (for old wick)
ALSO - make sure the tank is empty (or as close as possible)
1. Turn the control knob to OFF.
2. On the left and right side (bottom, just under the wire cage are two cabinet screws. Remove these.
3. Using the handle, lift straight up to remove the cabinet (entire upper assembly)
4. Gently pull off the wick adjustment knob (you will need to push in the little square button.
5. Remove the "dressing plate" (the ring about 3" high) that the "Off" "Low" and "High" markings. The chain attaches this the fuel cap, but you don't have to remove the cap. Just set the "dress plate" ring aside as far as the chain lets you.
6. Either trip the manual shut-off or push against the wobbly pendulum to the left of the control knob shaft to drop the wick all the way down.
7. Remove the four wing nuts that holds the heater on the wick assembly and carefilly lift teh sick assembly from the heater.
8. Reset the automatic shut-off, put the know back on temporarily and raise the wick all the way.
9. Turn the Wick Assembly upside down. Place the white plastic strip, packed with the new Wick, on the Wick Cover to protect your fingers.
10. While holding the Wick Assembly upside down, pull off the Wick Cover with a sharp tug.
11. Remove the Wick while folding it to the inside. (Remove the Wick Sleeve together with the Wick).
12. Take the new wick and insert the Wick pins into the three holes of the Wick Sleeve. (Make sure the short portion of the Wick is UP.)
13. Attach the Wick wo the retainer teeth of the Wick Sleeve stick into it, making sure the Wick fits evenly arount the inside with no wrinkles or bunching.
14. Fit the Wick and Wick Sleeve back onto the Wick Guide, making sure you fit the pins through the slanted grooves of the Wick Guide and Press on each of the three pins from the back, making sure they are inserted securely through the holes on the Wick Guide. (This is where most people screw up Wick Replacement, so make sure you get this right)
15. Turn the Wick Adjustment Knob to make sure the Wick slides up and down freely. (Note, the wick should automatically be set to 3/8 of an inch when fully raised.)
16. Turn the Wick Assembly upside down and replace the Wick Cover by: Align the four tabs on teh Wick Cover with the four screw holes on the bottom of teh assembly and snap it into place.
17. Hold the Set Lever to down position with your finger.
18. Remove the protective strips from the Wick Cover. Turn the Wick Adjustment Knob to the fully raised position and light pull on the "skirt" of the Wick to remove any slack. Then press the skirt lightly onto the teeth on the Wick Cover to hold it in place.
19. Replace the Wick Assembly on the heater WITH THE WICK RAISED. Replace the wing nuts, tightening gradually, tightening opposites sides first(If counting clockwise, tighten screw 1, 3, 4, 2 - go through several rounds, tightening gradually so it seats evenly
20. Before further reassembly, trip the Auto shut-off and reset it to make sure it works properly. Test the Wick adjustment knob to make sure Wick slides up AND down freely.
21. Remove the knob and replace the "dressing plate ring.
22. Replace the entire upper assembly "Heater Cabinet" and repalce the two screws. Replace the Wick Adjustment Knob.

yes the sleeve comes out and ther should be a couple little barbs holding the old wick in.fold the new wick to put it in making sure the adjustment pin is in the right place on the sleeve then slide the whole thing back in making sure to get the adjustment pin into the nob while sliding the sleeve an wick down

what make and model is it? They are very simple to change,never heard of 1 "Not" lighting tho,unless you have water in tank and the wick sucked up the water...water don't burn,You can also raise the wick in their now if it has never been raised,as long as it don't have "riviet"looking things attached to sides of wick to fit it wick housing(Sears is good for that)If it a round or square heater it pretty much the same you have to remove the outer shell of heater, its always a good idea to dump out fuel first,at the base of wick their is usually 3 wing nuts or screw that hold wick Assembly in,after removing them you pull housing up to remove ,notice how the old one is on and remove and put new one on,when putting back in make sure wick fans out and goes to bottom tank,put back to gether and your done,most replacement wicks come with directions and height setting for the wick, Its not real hard as long as you pay attention

I suggest you replace the wick and clean the wick feeder assembly. I did not own that model but did have one a number of years ago. The wicks can begin to dry out.
