Most motherboards have the manufacturer name and model number printed directly on the board. Go to the manufacturer's website (Google the name, ASUS for example) then go to the support or downloads section and download the manual, usually in PDF format. Instructions will be there.
Also, if that fails, most motherboards print the power, reset and HDD led locations next to the jumper block itself (use a magnifying glass if you have to, the print is usually very small), trial and error can help.
