Hi, I have got a Hotpoint BHWM129 washing machine. It stopped working today and we think it is the brushes. We have managed to get the motor off but it seems impossible to get to the brushes. It would also seem that no one sells the brushes, which leaves me to believe that the whole motor needs to be replaced. The machine is just out of warranty but I cannot believe that every time the brushes go I am going to have to buy a motor priced at £115. Can anyone please shed some light on my problem? Many thanks. Faye
Hi the Faye.......i need you to tell me if this motor is located at the top of the machine ...or at the bottom...i''ll deal with to fitting first the brushes are quite easily removed on this motor....looking at the rear of the brush holder in the motor .you simply insert a fine screwdriver behind the plastic brush tag (used to prevent the brush holder popping out of place)hold it foward and slide the brush holder out.....
2nd type more difficult as the brush holders have to be disassembled...the carbons removed and replaced.

There are no brushes in that kind of motor

Unless this machine is being run on direct current, there should be only alternating current motors used (i.e., no brushes). Is the power outlet working? Measure the voltage with a voltmeter. Is everything dead or just the motor? Does water come in when called for?

That motor is a three phase motor no brushes to change on it it is al internal if the motor has failed you need a new motor

Hi,
Thanks for all your help. We have solved the problem and believe it or not it was a piece of bra that had come off and had got stuck. Managed to work it out before I forked out £115 for a new motor.
Thanks again.
