Need advice on installing a Polycom 'Polyscan' video teleconferencing system

Hi We are a 25 person company working in the education software market; we have a 'Polyscan' system from Polycom, that used to work previously, hooked to a PC-based router that was internally maintained by an in-house network engineer. Unfortunately the engineer has left the company and the router has burnt. We have restored our internet access using a standard Netgear router, but we are left with the problem of hooking up again the videoconferencing system. What do you recommend? Buying a higher-end router that would provide support for video conferencing and that wouldn't betoo difficult to configure? Setting up again a PC-based router?

Hi,

Some ideas based on your post/description:

It is very possible that the management/support software necessary to run your videoconferencing system resides or is installed in the PC based router that got burned. When you replaced the router with a NetGear, you simply provided an interconnection/distribution/forwarding/sharing of your Internet access to the different PCs of your firm but nothing to replace the server/management software for the Polyscan System. You have replaced only half of the PC based router - the router only, hence you have Internet acces but no video conferencing which is software managed which was installed in the PC half. Additionally, Polycom uses online Product Activation which might be necessary for your system to start working again.

Depending on the model of the Polyscan System that you have, it is also possible that you simply have to reconfigure the network settings of your Polyscan' System to match the new IP address of the Netgear (which might be very different from what the burned PC based router was using before). I understand that Polycom have several models (or series as they term it - PVX, TPX, RPX, VSX, HDX, and others). Would you pls post back with the series/model number that you are using?

Have you tried discussing your concern with Polycom Support? They might be in a better position to address this.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back with the Polycom system model that you are using.

Good luck and kind regards.

What are the differences between video conference and teleconference?

Here are some differences between video conference and teleconference.

1. Teleconferencing is voice-only or audio-video communication, while video conferencing supports the conference by providing both the video and voice, so that you can absolutely see the person when you are listening to the communicator.
2. Teleconferencing is capable of transmitting the data during the conferencing either using traditional PBX systems or VoIP while video conferencing is offering VoIP services. The formal is less bandwidth intensive while the latter is heavily dependent on the networking broadband.
3. Apart from audio and video data transmitted during the conference that teleconferencing can provide, video conferencing can also enable you to share more information like files, applications, whiteboard and etc.

How to reset the password of polycom hdx 7000

You can use the hardware restore button on the Polycom HDX system to reset
the system in one of these ways:
• Restoring configuration-Restores the configuration, which resets most
system settings to default values.

• Factory restore-Completely erases the system and restores it to the
software version and default configuration stored in its factory partition.
If you follow this procedure while a USB storage device is connected, the
system restores from the USB device instead of the system's factory
partition.
The restore button is on the front of the Polycom HDX 9000 series system, as
shown in the following figure.

The restore button is on the front of the Polycom HDX 8000 series, Polycom
HDX 7000 series, and Polycom HDX 4000 systems, as shown in the following

The restore button is on the left side of the Polycom HDX 4500 system, behind
a wire mesh screen, as shown in the following figure.

Use a paperclip to press the restore button through the wire mesh covering
that side of the system. to reset the HDX Series system we can press the restore button over 15 second.

I need viewstation software! I have a system that has 3.x software, but I need to install 7.2.. where can i get 5.0 or a middle step software?? polycom does not show it on their website anymore.

I have looked all over trying to find this for you and you are correct, it is no longer listed anywhere, but Polycom definitely has it in their archives on a server somewhere.

Contact them at 1 925 9246000 and request the software, they should be able to email you a link to it.

All old links are dead / gone but it must still exist, they wouldn't just leave their customers hanging like that.

I believe we have the Polycom HDX 8002XL model (or one closely resembling it). After many weeks of problems with the video pixalating, we were able to stabilize the system and videoconference with our...

I would buy your Polycom system from you and sell you a Tandberg system. I have factory and deal refurbished units and it would not cost much to upgrade.

Let us know.

How do I conference call on a Polycom Voicestation 400?

Conference call is not a feature of the phone, but a feature of the telephone system in the company. Usually you press a sequence of keys like flash #02 to trigger this function in the phone system. If your company phone system does not offer the feature then you have to use an external conference call provider.

Not able to install Citrix GoToMeeting

Hi!
I am a Vista user and did have the same issue, so here what I did in order not to have this annoying error (I am not sure what action specifically did the trick):
1) Did it via Firefox (make sure you have the latest one);
2) Go to java.com and install the latest java update;
3) Go to gotomeeting.com->Login->re-install software->download manually and save g2m_download.exe file;
4) Now do Unblock and Apply in g2m_download.exe file property General tab;
5) Then Vista users need to disable UAC, I suppose this is the same as "Uncheck the “Protect my computer …”" (Go to "Control Panel" and type "UAC" into the search box. This will bring up the link: "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off." Click it. Uncheck the box next to "Use UAC to help protect my computer" then click OK. Restart.);
6) After restart right click on g2m_download.exe and "run as administrator".
Thats it!

How do I find the MAC Address for my Polycom ViewStation ISDN Video Conference?

I just called Polycom and the guy said it starts with 0003 or 0004. Sure enough I had one of those numbers, it was the same as the serial number on the box the phone came in. This number is found on a sticker on the back side of the phone. Easy to find, but not labeled as a "mac address"
