The USB streaming driver for theCamcorder is not available from Sony at this point. Hence it is not possible totransfer videos using USB interface. Please follow the steps to transfer video to a computerusing an i.LINK connection (IEEE 1394). IMPORTANT: Video capture software and a compatible video capture card mustbe installed on the computer. If necessary, contact the manufacturer of your computer for furtherinformation. NOTE: Many Sony VAIO computers are bundled with Sony DVgate Motion or DVgatePlus software for video capturing. Some VAIO computers also include Click ToDVD software that will allow video capture to the computer hard drive ordirectly to a DVD.

  1. Connect the other end of the i.LINK cable to the computer.
NOTE: The computer i.LINK ports and capture cardsmay have either 4-pin or 6-pin connections. Sony digital camcorders use i.LINKports with 4 pins. If your computer only has a 6-pin i.LINK port, then it willbe necessary to use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.

VHS to Easy capture to computer

The plugs you speak of are called RCA plugs, (Male side has an outside ring with "slots" around the edge, and a pin in the center. Female side has a short round "riser" with a hole in it). You need just standard Audio/Video hookup cables, available at any electronics store.. Walmart/Target/Kmart has them in the TV section. They get plugged into the Audio (Red & White) OUT of the VCR, into the Audio IN (Red & White) of the Easy Capture. The Yellow lead is for Video In/Out between the VCR and Easy Capture. The black is probably the S-Video connector, (round, has very small square hole, surronded by 4, 5, or 7 tiny pin holes) that can be also used to connect video/audio between VCR(if so equipped) and Easy Capture. Get a set of audio/video dubbing cables (abt $10 usually), connect Red to Red, White to White, Yellow to Yellow. Plug the Easy Capture USB cable into your computer (most likely), start the capture program. Start your vcr, hit Play. You should see your vcr tape playing on the computer screen.

Not capturing all the video

Video capture is cpu intensive and you do not want the computer to be distracted in any way during the process lest you incur errors.

No Sound when Capturing

ah. This happens to me sometimes. Well, for some reason it always works when i first open USB streaming tool( this program is not for recording)use the program to edit the video, like to fix brightness etc. Then open capturing tool. This is what you use to capture the video to your computer. What i do is to press the play button in the program, not the capture button. The video on the camcorder and the video on your screen should start playing. I do this just to test the video if its gonna have sound or not. Then you rewind the video by pressing the rewind button in the program. After that press the capture button. Sometimes it records and you don't hear the sound on the computer, I'm not sure but maybe after its captured into the computer, the video will have sound. If you do record, but with no sound, record about a minute and then stop it. Go to where you saved the video and check if there is any sound. Hope this helps you. Sorry if it's kinda confusing because i don' use the program no more. I use a DVD recorder which you connect your camcorder to the DVD player and it burns the video directly to a DVD. Its much mroe easier but you can't play around with it on the computer.
