Treadmill rubber tread has strong odor

Turn off and unplug the unit before making any adjustments. Check the belt alignment on the treadmill. If the treadmill is making noise or you smell burnt rubber, the belt may be loose or out of alignment. There should be a belt roller on the side or the front of the unit. You can use a hex wrench or an adjustable wrench to loosen the belt so it can be properly aligned. Make sure you tighten the belt so it does not rub against the machine. Consult the user manual for specific instructions in adjusting the belt.

  • 2 Reposition the heart rate monitor. If the monitor does not show a reading, it may need to be repositioned. The monitor should be placed against your skin so the sensor is facing toward your body and the HealthRider logo is facing away from you. The monitor will only work if you stay on the treadmill, walking in the middle of the belt.
  • 3 Test the hand grip monitors for a correct reading. These are the metal plates that are secured to the hand railing. If the plates are dirty, they may not function correctly. Wipe them clean with a damp cloth. Your palm will need to wrap completely around the plates at all times for a proper reading.
  • 4 Reset the unit if the treadmill still does not function correctly. Unplug the unit from the electrical outlet. Leave it unplugged for about one minute and then turn the machine back on. Remove the safety key from the treadmill and reinsert it into the key slot. Taking out the key will reset the unit, clearing all memory and resetting it to factory defaults.

    Incline goes up and down

I had the SAME problem, several time, with my NordicTrack A2250 Treadmill.
Allow it to go fully up and then fully down several times, without turning it off. IT seems to "cycle" that way 3 times and then "reboots" itself and starts working normally, again.
I had to figure this out myself... none of the suggestions I read worked.
