The flat screen is a Samsung 5200 series 5 with 2 HDMI ports - HDMI in 1 (MHL & DVI) and HDMI in 2 (STB). The HDMI 3 port switch is connected to the HDMI in 1 slot on the flat screen, the Direct TV box is connected to the HDMI in 2 slot on the flat screen. The sound bar has power. When the flat screen is powered on the sound bar cycles thru the startup searching for an audio source as evidenced by the flashing led's. No sound is emitted from the flat screen until the sound bar times out searching for an audio source.
SOURCE: No Picture from Component Input #1 or #2 but do have audio via Surrond Sound
Simplest thing would be that your component cables are not HU'd correctly. Having them reversed would do this.
Mr Bob
SOURCE: No sound when using HDMI cable but I do have sound if using DVI
Is your computer configured to send sound through the HDMI cable as its output device? This might be a setting within your sound card properties.
"cable box to tv is hdmi cable"
Everything I've read on the web says cable box to tv connection must also use component (rgb) cables. The error is coming from the cable box (STB). All the Scientific Atlanta (SA) cable boxes seem have this Digital Rights Management (DRM) bug and the only way to be totally rid of the error is to replace the digital connection from box to the TV with an analog connection.
SOURCE: Macbook Pro DVI---> HDMI + Digital Optical Out = Problem w/ Sound
On the Sony The HDMI takes "priority" over all others, that's why you loose audio. If you run your DVI/HDMI to the TV and optical to the soundbar that would fix your issue. If your TV does not have Multiple HDMI inputs, you can get a DVI/Component adapter for your MBP then run it to the TV, or, If you have to have HDMI just to have HDMI, you can get a 2:1 HDMI switch and still have optical to your soundbar. Make sense? If youneed more help, just post a comment and I'll help some more.
