Many new printers come with a "starter" cartridge which may print several hundred pages and then needs to be replaced with a new "full load" cartridge. The standard cartridge for your machine is rated at about 1200 pages at 5% cover, so it is likely that a starter cartridge would give about 500pages at 5% cover. Please note the 5% cover bit means about 500 at 5%, about 250 at 10%, about 170 at 15% cover respectively.

Try shutting the printer completely down & unplug power. then plug power back in and while holding down all buttons on the printer control panel, turn it back on. this should put it into a self diagnostic mode that prints out just about everything the printer can do, including a sample page. Also, be sure all rollers are clean & trays are completely closed before restarting. If the printer works when you do this, you should most liely check all settings in the software package (driver) or perhaps reinstall the drivers. If this is necessary, be sure to download the latest drivers from the Brother website.

You have Auto Tray Switching acticated (ATS). Unless you specify each tray/paper with different settings it will switch.
Go in to the utility menu and you can find this in the paper tray settings area I believe.
You can turn this off completely to avoid this in the future.
If you look around you can even just tweak the settings for this, but in your case i would just shut it off.

I found just doing this one simple thing sorted the problem.
First take off the front cover. Pull the tabs on the side. Pull out the big toner and cartridge. Do you see the blue tab on the top shaped like an arrow/triangle? Slide the tab from right to left - reinsert toner close door.

i had same problem, figured out how to solve it. when the epson screen pops up and says the cartridges are not compatiable. go to the how to section and foolow instructions. once the cartridges where primed the printer worked perfectly
