SOURCE: Gas tank decal

Okay, I did this with my original tank. Your decals were most likely clear coated over after they were applied (at least mine were). To remove mine I wet-sanded carefully around the perimeter of the decal (to break the clear coat). Then carefully warm them with a hairdryer and peel away (long arduous process). They will likely leave a gummy residue that will need to be removed with something like “Goo Gone” or light solvent. Then some more wet-sanding to feather the edges. You’ll need to re-clear coat the spot and buff everything so it blends together.

1999 VT 1100-How do I remove the decal or tank badge from tank?

For stick on decals try using hot soapy water and a lot of care .don't pull too hard as you may take of paint with the decal once you have poured the hot soapy water over the decal ,try and get the edge of the decal to come away from the tank .start with your thumb nail Never use any abrasive tool like a knife or screwdriver as this will scratch the paintwork.and once you have a finger grip pour hot water on the decal directly where its attached to the tank .The hot water softens the glue on the decal .pull very gently .it does help tp have another person pouring the water on the decal ,this will leave your hands free to remove the decal.Once decal has been removed ,try using a small amount of petrol on a rag or a good colour restorer polish .to remove the glue left on the tank .Depending how long the decal has been on the tank ,you may well find that the sun has bleached the tank from it original colour .and the paint under the decal will be much fresher looking and of a deeper colour.

I have vacuum leaks .I have problems connecting the vacuum lines

you need to find your decal on the underside of hood or on the shield above the radiator cooling fan.

1997 PCED OBDII-A SECTION 1A: Description and Operation
Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal Each vehicle has a decal (Figures 1 and 2) containing emission control information that applies specifically to the vehicle and engine. The specifications on the decal are critical to servicing emissions systems.

Figure 1: Typical Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal for 49 States Vehicles

Figure 2: Typical Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal for California Vehicles

Figure 3: Typical Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal for Canadian Vehicles. In addition to the tune-up specifications and procedures, the emission decal shows a color-coded (shown in black and white) schematic of the engine vacuum system. The color coding on the schematic represents the actual color coding on the vacuum hoses. However, there will be instances when a hose color does not match the color on the decal.
Decal Location Typical location of the decal will be on the underside of the hood or the radiator support sight shield.
