SOURCE: I've lost my instruction manual

I've always been able to get a free PDF downloadable manual from Janome. They are happy to send you a manual for your specific machine via email, and they've always been very helpful to me. Here's a link to them:

SOURCE: Janome JD1818 Automatic Buttonhole Not Working

If everything appears to be working correctly for the first side and stops and bunches up when it should reverse - Make sure you have pulled down the stopper arm (this is not clear in the manual) when the button hole foot contacts the stopper arm gently push the foot against the stopper arm and the direction will reverse and finish the button hole. **Stopper arm pulls down from above - Check the pictures in you manual carefully.**

SOURCE: buttonhole jams - 'bl' what do I do?

Hi,
Have just had the same thing. Found out that the BL stands for Buttonhole Lever. On pg 22 of your manual you will see at step 3 that you need to pull down the buttonhole lever as far as you can before attempting to sew. On your machine it is a black lever tucked up under near the needle. Hope this helps. Cheers

SOURCE: Janome 2030 QDC How to

does it sew buttonholes both ways?

My Janome 6500 always buttonholes away from me, so when it starts, it sews the near bartack, then stitches backwards down the right hand side of the buttonhole. It then comes back with little straight stiches on other side and sews the zigzag backwards on the left side, then the far bar tack. I would have thought your Janome would do the same stitch sequence.

JANOME NEW HOME MY EXCEL 18W / MW3018 FREE ARM SEWING MACHINE -

Here are the steps to sew a buttonhole on the Janome New Home My Excel 18W/MW3018 sewing machine:
  1. Attach the buttonhole foot to the machine.
  2. Place the button in the back of the buttonhole foot and adjust the foot so that the button fits snugly.
  3. Select the buttonhole stitch on the machine. It may be a buttonhole symbol or a number corresponding to the buttonhole stitch.
  4. Set the stitch length to the desired length for the buttonhole. The machine may have preset lengths or you can adjust it manually.
  5. Place the fabric under the foot and lower the foot.
  6. Sew the first side of the buttonhole. Stop the machine when it reaches the end of the buttonhole.
  7. Sew the second side of the buttonhole, stopping at the end.
  8. Use a seam ripper or scissors to open the buttonhole carefully.
  9. Remove the fabric from the machine and trim any loose threads.
Make sure to practice on a scrap piece of fabric before sewing the buttonhole on your project.

Janome 6125 will not complete automatic buttonhole. Completes first side then might start second side then just stops in one position and keeps sewing in one spot

Back in the 1960's with a blouse needing many buttonholes, mom paid a gal to sew them for $ .10 each. She used a Buttonhole Attachment. You can find them on ebay for peanuts. They make Excellent buttonholes, and fast. I've Never owned a machine that was nearly as good. They come in 2 types: straight needle, and slant-needle. Pick one, and give up on your machine's auto buttonhole. I've used more types of machines that I can name, over decades. Running a costume shop in the '70's, we had all sorts of machines. None of them had decent button-hole makers.

How do you expose thereverse switch Janome Excel 4023

This is a symptom of winding the bobbin to tightly with a stretchy thread (poly or nylon). I would break bobbin to remove it rather than risk damaging machine
