Does the husqvarna scandavania viking 300 have internal embroidery stitches, like letters/alphabet, and numbers? Or do I have to find a cartridge/embroidery card that has them in order to do embroidery? I bought used machine at estate sale and can’t figure out how to use embroidery option.

No, the Scandavania 300 doesn't have embroidery stitches built in. Embroidery patterns come on a memory card; the card reader is on the side of the machine above the power switch. The machine originally came with a card with 25 "sampler" patterns. There are only 20 pre-programmed stitches, including a blanket stitch/hand-look applique stitch. See page 32 the manual, http://manuals.husqvarnaviking.com/VSM/Husqvarna%20Viking/HVManual.nsf/5bc6115484660075c12575d2003f80e3/51860492a45a0af1852575ed00729c00/$FILE/Scandinavia300_manual_EN.pdf , for the list of included stitches. See page 20 for setting up for embroidery.

If you don't have that memory card, some may be available on E-bay. However, you'll need to check that the card is compatible with the Scandavania 300. Most of the cards I've seen on E-bay are programmable ones that require a separate reader/writer that connects to your computer. Many of the writers are not supported for newer versions of the Windows OS; the drivers weren't updated.

I hope this helps.

Use any card that has the On/Off in the bottom right og the card (1). You have to know what number is you design so you can push that number after selecting on/off. Make sure you programmed emb card is in the machine. You can use another card if you do not have the generic numbered card with on/off and the hoop positioning E on the right side of the numbers 1 to 35 designs.

SOURCE: Husqvarna Viking Designer I breaking needles

Dls8864's suggestion was a very good suggestion - make sure the metal stitch plate is pushed all the way to the back. Also make sure that the thread is feeding freely - if it is catching on something it can cause the needle to be pulled aside and make it break. Does the design fit properly inside the hoop you are using? If the foot and/or needle strike against the side of the hoop, that will cause a breakage. Is the bobbin thread okay - not making a bird's nest underneath?

There are two ways to convert the True Type fonts on your computer to embroidery. One is within the program, one is independent. To locate the independent one, locate your Programs folder on your computer then the folder containing your embroidery software. There should be a QuickFont.exe file there you can use. The best way however is to use the one within the program. On your Letter tab, up where the types of fonts are listed with radio buttons, there should be a QF icon. Click on that and you are away. The two programs are not exactly the same and whilst I have forgotten the differences, the one inside the customising program is the better one to use.
