Technics BD-SL22 Turntable 'scapes' as it rotates. How do I fix this?

The unit has not been used for some time. Replaced the drive belt and when I started to play a record, the table would scrape somewhere. It worked fine the last time I used it, many years ago.

SOURCE: all my vinyl sounds warped on turntable

Most common problem is the belt getting soft, especially if it has sat for a long time. It will get a weak spot where it sat on the drive pulley and every time the turntable goes around and hits that weak spot it will slow down a little making it sound like a warped album.

The belts are usually very easy to replace. Usually just lift off the turntable or there might be a small clip on the center pin, then it lifts off. Replacement belts can be ordered from several places, as shown in this search... http://www.google.com/search?&q=SL-B200+Technics+turntable+belt

hello

You need a belt.. Lift up the record support..(platter) Underneath you will see a metal post.. Belt goes around that and the bottom of the plate.(there is a rim) . If the belt is there, motor might be bad..

SOURCE: tonearm lifter in UP position - how to fix

I have also had this problem with the same model turntable. I opened mine up and the problem seems to have been that the grease on the arm lift and cueing lever was gumming up the linkage between the two. (I suspect that my turntable hadn't been used in some time.) I managed to free up the parts by manually working the the arm lift (pressing it down) several times. I'm not sure that I needed to open up the chasis for this fix but it did help me to see what was going on. Good luck with yours.

My Technics SL-QL 1 turntable turns on, I can move the needle by using the buttons, but the platter will not rotate.

Can you hear a motor running?
If yes then the belt to the turntable has come off or broken.

Changing the belt on a Technics SL-3 (Linear tracking) turntable

Instructions on installation of your drive belt - this also applies to other brands as well - however this belt is only for the Technics models listed above:
  1. Remove the turntable platter off from the turntable
  2. Remove the old/damage belt
  3. Wrap the new belt underneath the turntable platter - you will see a small lip on the bottom of the platter. Wrap the belt around this lip.
  4. Put the platter back on the turntable
  5. The turntable platter will have small holes, rotate the platter until you see the motor, and the motor shaft.
  6. Pinch the belt, so that it wraps around the motor shaft
  7. Turn on and enjoy!

How to replace drive belt for model.# SL-BD22 ?

Nope, very simple...

1) Remove the platter - just lift up
2) Underneath the platter, you'll see a small lip section
3) Wrap the belt around this lip
4) Put platter back on turntable
5) Rotate platter until you see the motor shaft through the holes on the platter - a brass round looking piece
6) Pinch the belt around the motor shaft.
7) That's it.

Turning slowly, then stops

Based on the experiences, it sounds like it's something on the main board. Perhaps one or multiple resistors failing, not allowing the correct current to hit the motor.

Unfortunately, not an easy fix. I would suggest contacting a service center for assistance.

Technics sl-1610 mk 2 turntable

Unfortunately, it does sound like a drive issue. Just so you know, these units are direct drive, so there is no physical motor. It's just a bunch of various circuits which drive the unit, and if any one of them go bad, it will affect your turntable speed. You will need to have this looked at by a service technician to determine which circuit is faulty.

Technics problems

There is no drive belt on this unit. This is a direct drive turntable. Your pitch control might be on it's way out. Are you getting any sort of unusual speed issues? Or is it just sort of running slower than usual? There is a pot you can adjust under the turntable platter to speed it up a bit, however, this is only a temporary fix. It is listed as VR301 - and is on the main board under the turntable platter - it says PITCH on it. Try adjusting that pot, to see if it does anything. WORD OF CAUTION: Make sure your turntable platter is ALWAYS on whenever you power up your turntable, and if you do any electrical modifications, make sure you always disconnect your turntable from it's power source to be on the safe side. If this does not work, then either your pitch control (which is a variable resistor) will need to be replaced. The problem could also be one of the drive components on the main board, however, this will need to be worked on by a service tech. Hope this helps. - Justin
