sounds like you need to replace the adaptive defrost assembly. and yes, it will effect the performance of the fridge. the part number is 12002104 if the first 2 numbers of your serial # is 22; or 61003990 if the 1st 2 numbers of your serial # is 10; or 61005988 if the 1st 2 numbers of your serial # is 17. here is a breakdown showing the location it is # 13 in the picture. hope this helps.

sounds like the water drain is plugged. its a small line that drains the water to the catch basin on bottom of the refrig. if that is not the problem its probably the gasket on the door not sealing change that.
