You may be experiencing drain flies. A common problem in restaurants especially with floor drains. Not knowing your accomadations if it's a basement apartment or even your kitchen sink they could be coming from the P-trap under the sink. Possible solution are to treat the drains with disinfectant liquid lysol or iodine. Bleach doesn't seem to work as well. How about fruits? maybe something forgotten in a cupboard. Hope this helps.

No ! Use a oil like olive oil, to trap them and ammonia to kill them. Also can use a lemon scent detergent with water to deter them.

Getting rid a fungus gnats throughout the house and killing houseplants

Mix one part 3% hydrogen peroxide with four parts water. Allow the top layer of your soil to dry, and then water your plants with this solution as you normally would. The soil will fizz for a few minutes after application; this is normal. The fungus gnat larvae will die on contact with the hydrogen peroxide.

How do we get rid of gnats in our house?

You can fix nettings on the windows and main opening doors which can prevent gnats or mosquitos. The other alternative is to fumigate the house every day to clear up and sanitise.
If this is only a periodic thing then you can use the fumigation method , if not using netting is a fully guaranteed method.

How to get rid of gnats

  • Clean up the living area where the gnats are hanging around. This is usually the kitchen .Take away all garbage, clean the sink disposal, and throw away any food residue.

  • 2

Spray the counters with a cleaner that contains bleach to discourage gnats. Dry off the counters with paper towels.

    • 3
    • Find out where the gnats are getting into the house. If there are cracks around windows or doors bass seal them. Fix any window or door screens.
Elimination
  • 4

Pour a cup of ammonia down your sink drains and disposal to coat the inside. Gnats inside the drains will quickly die.

  • 5

Mix together equal parts apple cider vinegar and dish detergent.

  • 6

Pour the mixture into small dishes or cups and set them out in the areas where gnats congregate. The gnats will be attracted to the sweetness of the vinegar but will get caught and die in the dish soap.

Prevention
  • 7

Keep trash cans covered at all times, and empty them every night.

  • 8

Leave your compost buckets outside. Gnats love vegetables and fruits.

  • 9

Avoid over watering your plants. Soggy soil attracts gnats

Gnats house

Vinegar can be used to get rid of gnats in the form of a vinegar trap. Vinegar traps are easy to make and can be used throughout the home, although they work best near areas where gnats feed and breed. To make a vinegar trap, simple take a bottle or jar with a large opening and fill it with vinegar (preferably white vinegar). Cover the trap, and cut a few small holes into the lid. The vinegar traps will attract the gnats. They are able to crawl into the trap but not make their way back out.
Another method for using vinegar to get rid of gnats is an alternative vinegar trap. This homemade insect trap is simple. Take a bowel and mix a few drops of dishwashing detergent with some vinegar. The vinegar will attract the gnats, and the detergent will help trap them in the bowel.
