I need a digram of the PTO set up on a farmall cub

May be electrical connection/wiring, safety switches issue. Do you have power to PTO.

When you pull the rod does it fell like anything moves inside the tractor? If not, remove the four bolts holding the pto in the rear frame. Pull out the pto assembly and what you most likely will find is shift lever broke and not shifting the pipe sleeve to spline to the transmission shaft. Pull it out and look.

power take off which drives the belt that runs the mower deck sounds like a dead short in the pto clutch maybe a wire shorting out check for bare wires

check the level of fluid and check the filter this may be the problem

NO it must be tof the same type either band[planetary] or clutch type
