No spark
Im going to ask a stupid question here, is the rotor in the cap?
How hard is to install a coil in a 1950 super a
The super a uses a delco distributer along with a stand alone canister coil like those used in most older mid 70 cars, so all you should need is to pick up one from a junk yard or go to TSC and pick up a new one
Have a farmall super m need gap measurement on the
The point gap should be 0.013 inches. You should also check the end play and run out on the shaft before point installation (vertical & horizontal movement)- should be minimal or the engine will run erratic or not at all if too loose.
I recently purchased a 1940
Have you checked for spark? If the points have worn and closed the gap this will cause your problem. As worn point follower changes the gap and that changes the timing. You can use a good business card to gap the points. A good white card will also polish the point contacts. If you are sure you are getting fuel, the next check is spark at the plugs. You can see if a small amount of fuel poured in the carb will start the engine. If that starts her up you have a carb / fuel pump problem. If that does not help or start it up, you have no spark, and start trouble shooting by pulling the plug wire from any plug. A good phillips drive screw driver will fit in the plug wire so you can hold it close to the tip of the spark pulg. You may need a helper to turn the engine to see a spark jump from the screw driver shaft to the plug tip. You may even be able to hear it jump. If you see spark it should be thin and blue in color not orange and fuzzy. If you have the orange fuzzy spark, check the points / gap / distributor timing. Hope this helps fixya up.

worked on a farm-all not too long ago and soundslike he may have knocked something into the yokes or knocked something loose. pull the inspection plate off the front of the trans housing and see if it is jambed or loose up in there.

I have a 1957 farmall A. It is in very good shape
The brushes have more than likely failed in the starter. You can try using a set of VERY "heavy duty" jumper cables directly to the armature side of the starter solenoid making sure the tractor is out of gear. (Ground anywhere on the engine positive to the aramture lead nut) If you get the same hum.... it is time to either get a new set of brushes or replace the starter. Just make sure there are 2 people present so if the positive lead welds itself to the starter someone can disconnect the other end from the battery.
Thanks for using FixYa.

It is a 1947 farmall
Two possibilities come to mind:
- the water pump impeller may have so much oxidation on it, it's not pumping enough coolant
- the cooling circuit in the block has so much oxidation in it that it is restricting the coolant flow rate through the block
It's like my arteries, I'm the same age as your tractor, and believe it or not my father once owned that same tractor.
I don't remember, does it have a thermostat? . If it does, you could remove it -- that might help.
1942 farmall tractor stalls after 10 - 15 minutes of bushhogging.
Hello, W/D here.
It might have to do with your temp or it could be a fuel issue. I had a model "B" (1947) and it sometimes pulled a slight vacuum on the tank, starving it for fuel, and it took about that long. If you have the glass sediment bowel on yours, you should be able to see evidence of this if it is happening, or if you have a vent in your filler cap, it might be plugged. I don't know how a model H tank is vented, but I'm sure that you do.
As to it being temp related; it could be. You can remove and test your thermostat by immersing it in hot boiling water and seeing if it opens. It probably has it's temperature rating printed on the thermostat. If you believe that this is the issue, a lower opening thermostat can be installed to see if this corrects the problem
Good luck, and best regards, --W/D--
Working on farmall super a tractor distributer had
Remove valve cover, bring #1 cylinder top dead center, make sure both push rods are loose, put you dist in and were ever your rotor is pointed that will be your number one wire.then you will have to adjust you timing when started by ear,I hope this helps you
Farmall 560 idles fine. Gradually dies when a load is put on?
See adjusting throttle governor...

Read through entire article and first determine how far out of adjustment, stuck, or worn out the governor is. If not stuck or worn out, try adjusting.
Be careful after first start. Be prepared to shut it down immediately if it runs away. Not likely, but it can happen if some gross mistake is made.
