After ten minutes the unit turns itself off and flashes up PROTECTION on the lcd.i am able to turn it on again but the above will happen. what is the problem, is there a ssolution that i can deal with or does this need an expert to open it up
Start with checking your speaker wires, alot of times if you have positive & negitive crossing it will cause this issue
If it has been running fine that long and this just popped up then I would advise having it checked by a servicer if you are not good with electronics. But First try these ideas. Unplugg the unit for over an hour (this will reset it to factory settings) Or unhook from other components one by one to see if the short is being caused by other units. If that dosnt do it its time to bring it in for service

Try checking the Fan! if its been in place for that long; assume Dust. As dust is an insulator, that means overheating. If the unit is in warranty send it in. If not, crack the lid and blow the Board clean of all dust, clean the fan bades, and check for operation. Audio Ic's (amps) get VERY HOT during operation, the protection is a system shutdown probably due to heat.
If your'e good with hands find the Audio Ic's, Unbolt them from the heatsink and clean BOTH the mating surfaces with Isopropol. Get some Artic silver ($9.00 Radio Shack) and smear on an even coat to the back of the IC's. bolt them back down tight until the heatsink compound squeezes out.. DO NOT remove once on! (if you do repeat the process. Reassemble and try it out!
