need to have the heat element checked with a multimeter and visually if u can and look for burns and corrosion and breaking of the wire connections. Also have the thermostats checked, Im assuming its electric and not gas? the thermal cut off may be bad and the hi-lo thermostat, these can shut heat off from the dryer. Ive replaced the element on my G.E profile and it wasn't all that hard rather simple.

Check for heat being generated before it stops. If you have heat then it could be the thermal protection that is stopping the machine because it may have an airflow issue. If it is not generating heat then the issue is the heating element. In any case you should unplug the machine and take the bottom panel off under the door and clean it out. If you have never done this, the build up of lint on the motor could be causing an over heating issue too.

oubleshoot a thermostat:

1. Shut off power to the heater at the electric panel and post a sign warning others not to turn it on.
2. Unscrew and remove the electric water heater access panel.
3. Using a small screwdriver, turn the thermostat dial counterclockwise to lower the temperature, or clockwise to raise it. If the water heater doesn't maintain the proper temperature, test the thermostat.
4. Disconnect one wire to the upper thermostat to test it. Set a multimeter to RX1 (resistance times 1) and touch a probe to the thermostat terminals as indicated in the owner's manual. Depending on the model and the terminals tested, the tester should show infinity ( open) or about 0 ( closed).
5. Test the lower thermostat in the same manner.
6. If necessary, replace the thermostat. Unscrew it from its mounting and install one of the same model, size, and rating. Once you install it, adjust the thermostat following instructions in your owner's manual.

Test and replace a heating element:

1. Turn off power at the electric panel and post a sign warning others not to turn it on.
   
2. Remove the access panel on the electric water heater.
   
3. Disconnect one of the element wires and set a multimeter to RX1000 (resistance times 1,000). Touch one probe to an element mounting bolt and the other to each element terminal screw, in turn. If the tester displays anything but infinity ( open circuit), replace the element.
   
4. If necessary, set the multimeter to RX1 and touch the probes to the terminal screws. If there is any resistance reading at all ( closed circuit), then the element is good. If not, replace it. Both upper and lower elements are tested in the same manner.
   
5. To remove the element, first drain the heater.
   
6. Disconnect the remaining element wire. Remove the mounting bolts holding the element in place. Remove the element.
   
7. Replace the heating element with one of the same model, shape, and rating. Make sure you also replace any installation gaskets.
   

Test and replace a high-limit cutoff:

1. Disconnect power to the heater at the electric panel and post a sign warning others not to turn it on.
2. Remove the upper access panel and push the reset button.
3. Replace the access panel and turn the power back on. If the water is hot, the reset was the problem. If not, you'll need to turn the power off again and reopen the access panel.
4. Use a multimeter to test the cutoff terminals for continuity. If faulty, replace with an exact replacement part.

If it only has one access door then all you have is one element and thermostat.

If your heater only has one access panel, then it only has one element. These are mostly in the 30 gal. electric models.

the top element is in the same position where your electrical come in..it is just under the thermostat also there is a special wrench for removal of element...dont forget to turn of the power and shut off the water and release the pressure from the tank..

The heating element is located in a pan on the rear wall of the dryer. You must remove the front and drum to access it. Start by opening the door and removing the screws that hold down the top. Check for 220 Volt at the heater entrance to the heater box (accessible from picking up the top on most models). If you have 220v there the heater element is out. If you don't have 220v on the terminals of the heater the problem is in the controls. The fuse link, the timer contacts, the centrifugal switch on the motor, and the heater safety thermostat and operating (s), are all suspect and have to be eliminated 1 by 1. Hope this helps. With any luck all you need is a new element. Clean the duct out while replacing the heater if so because the main thing that causes heater element burn out is low air flow a kinked Dryer vent hose, lint, and plugged up fan on the motor are the 3 main causes of low air flow.
