I have exactly the same problem with my solar powered Casio watch.
I discussed it with a good jeweler and he explained that when you have sun, the watch 's battery will be charged up. But when the battery's charge is used up it works off a capacitor power source. But if the capacitor is defective(no available backup power) you then end up with a blank display. And it'll display the default settings(12:00) for a while only.
You can have a jeweler change the capacitor to get it working again.
For my $100+ watch, it'll cost me about $25 to replace the capacitor.
But for yours, the watch may not have cost that much and therefore
be hard to justify that cost.
