NEVER use 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, old stinky brown sewing machine oil in a sewing machine! Use only fresh good quality sewing machine oil or liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube.
Be sure to clean out all the lint & broken threads from the machine before oiling. Use only fresh good quality sewing machine specified for your machine or liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube.
Pick up a fresh bottle of good quality sewing machine oil or liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube (hardware or bike shop). Open the case as much as you can. Gently rock the handwheel and apply a couple drops every place that metal rubs on metal--do NOT oil belts, synthetic parts, cams. Be sure to get the top, the side where the needle bar is located, and don't forget the bobbin area and feed dogs. If the machine seems "sticky" or sounds like it is struggling to run, oil it first and then direct hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal mechanics. You may need to repeat this process several times until it is moving freely.
A drop of oil at the spot where the hook/shuttle rotates every 8 hours of sewing. Lightly over-all oiling (as described above) every 40 hours of sewing time. If not in frequent use or in storage, oil every six months. This will keep your machine running smoothly for many years.
