After cleaning my kitchen aid mixer it won't turn on

The drive train probably need cleaning and re-greasing, but there is also a gear that wears out.

They do not have oil in them, it will be the grease breaking down. It is food grade grease so not at all harmful. If you want to replace the grease you will need to pull the mixer apart and clean out the old grease and purchase some new grease from Kitchen Aid, a very messy job.

Put an ohmmeter across the two pins on the plug, on the mixer,,not the earth one.and turn the switch on.you should get a reading,plus it will change as you turn the switch to different settings.if no reading,suspect broken wire in plug,or mixer windings burnt out.try in a different socket

Get some CRC around the shaft and into the beater hole and wriggle it about until it comes free. Rasp the build up in the beater hole out with a round file and clean up the shaft on the mixer. Remember you are cleaning out the hole not trying to make it bigger than it was. In my experience it is a build up of flour in there bonding itself to the hole in the aluminium beater.

Do you have a manual? You can download one from Kitchen Aid, small appliances. There should be a schematic and how to that will help.

You will need to open it up and inspect the brushes carefully. Look for a little copper wire, this wire needs to be firmly attached to both the brush and the little disc at the other end of the spring. Clean the brush out with a can of electric cleaner to free any dirt that has built up around the gears.
