Emachines desktop fan runs high speed at power up

When you say "idles high" do you mean you hear fans spinning faster or louder? If so, a fan spinning at higher than normal speeds is indicative of components/chips being run aggressively causing them to run at much higher temperatures. You may want to look into getting temperature monitoring software like CPU-Z to monitor the temperatures of your CPU and GPU. These components are the most common ones to be running at high temperatures. If any fan has failed on them the secondary fans (if there is one) will run at much higher speeds to compensate. Your PC may have a safety precaution to automatically shut down if certain temperatures are reached to prevent permanent damage to the components. Are you getting any blue screens before it shuts down?

There is your answer no power to the monitor. Make sure it is plugged in replace with another monitor if you cannot get the button on the monitor to power on the unit. Maybe time for another monitor. John

I've almost the same problem. When the system turns on the monitor doesn't sync. After a variable trials with down/up the sync is enabled and the computer starts.A very clear event occurs : when the monitor can''t sync ( and system doesn't boot)you can hear very clear a high fan rotation. When I look/hear in the system the Isuspect the cpu fan. The system boots ( monitor syncs) when the fan rotationgoes from high to low. So the system hangs on an internal check on the rotation speed of the cpu fan.I've googled a lot , but until now doesn't find an answer . Possibilties which I think about : replace cpu fan , clean cpu fun ( but it looks clean).I cannot measure the fan rotation speed when the system is hanging. At normal rotation all info can retrieved witth the program cpu-z.Did you already have a solution ?

to cure this increased fan speed and overheating issue, i strongly suggest you get a few cans of 3m or whatever brand duster cans are available to you. remove the side case cover with the system shut down and power supply unplugged and blow the dust off the fan blades and heat sink fins located behing the fan that covers the boards processor. some dust may be stubborn and can be remove with a gentle assistance from a tooth brush. be sure the air inlets at the front of your pc case a free and clear of blockages too. this should prevent your fans from running at such a high speed as needed to cool your system.

you prolly need a new video card.

look on bios to see if detects the hard drive ...if does not boot to windows...the hard disk has no reason to go on ....and the issues could be many ....check the Ram memory if do not appear anything on screen at all ...and just runs the coolers and clicks without boot at all...in this case its the Ram memory ...so check it ...get it out ..put it back ...and remove the bios battery to force it see them again .....if it is booting until the operating system should appear ...and after that nothing ...reinstall ...
Also .....if there is anything written on the screen ..read carefully ..usually it will say whats wrong ...and advise in same issues..like replace hdd ...or files missing ...or blue screen error from memory issues..

That's exactly what it sounds like. I would put in a new video card (or used one, if you have one) into one of the expansion slots and run it from there.

I would suggest to go into VGA mode just to make sure, but since your monitor never even gets off standby, I'd be 99% it's the onboard video.

I have run into this a few times and it has turned out to be a bad motherboard.Also the power supply they put in the emachine is not very good.The power supply in them has caused the motherboard to blow.Im not saying it is your motherboard, that is just a good possibility.Goodluck

Make sure your monitor is plugged in and try again

There could be a number of causes. Do you hear any beeps when the computer starts up? Try seating all the chips in the motherboard. That means, apply pressure to each individual chip on the motherboard with your finger or thumb. The goal is to make sure each chip is securely attached to the board. Sometimes, heat or new h/w installs partially "pop" some of the chips out of the motherboard - causing the circuitry to be disconnected...
