I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 graphics card. The original installation works fine, NVIDIA is loaded on boot. But recently I added another disk drive and make it the primary boot drive. NVIDIA rarely loads, rather the default VGA driver is loaded, rebooting doesn't help. I have downloaded the latest drivers, uninstalled them, reinstalled them, but still they don't load on boot. However, when I boot the old drive, the NVIDIA drivers are loaded fine 100% of the time - so that means the card is fine. Any suggestions?
You should enter Bios setup when restarting and check that it says AGP or PCI for video display. You can then go to Start then Run and type in msconfig. Go through the list for the startup menu and make sure that NVIDIA is displayed with a checkmark.
When you installed the new driver, also make sure that you disabled the default VGA driver too. You may have to check that out. If both are running there will be conflict. Any questions, please don't hesitate.
Something to try: Your VGA has a port and your video card has a port in the back to plug in. Change the cable from your VGA to your video card port before rebooting. If you have done this, let me know. Are the drivers new from NVIDIA's website? There may be a new version with a patch available. We will get it sorted out.

I went into the BIOS and changed the PnP/PCI Primary Graphic's Adapter from "First PCIE" to "PCI Slot". Not sure if that is what you were referring to.
Then re-booted. First time, it came up (very slowly) using the NVIDIA graphics. However, I booted again just to see what would happen, and it went back to the VGA.
I looked at msconfig and NVIDIA is NOT in the startup list. How do I get it there?
When I install the driver for NVIDIA, it immediately says it has to reboot. How do I disable the VGA at that point? If I disable the VGA when the VGA is running, the screen goes blank and if I reboot, it stays blank unless I boot in SAFE mode.
When I look at the Device Manager, NVIDIA is the only one under the list of Display Adapters, but it has a yellow exclamation point, if troubleshoot, then it just says to reinstall the drivers, which I have done at least 4 times now.
Anyway, it appears that since it isn't in the Startup menu under msconfig, then either it isn't attempting to start it up, or maybe it fails on startup and goes back to VGA.

I did download the latest NVIDIA drivers from their website.
I checked and my monitor cable is plugged into the NVIDIA video card, using a VGA cable. There is another kind of connector on the NVIDIA card, but I am not using that. I also couldn't see any other VGA connector on the back of my computer.
Anyway, I was browsing through my msconfig startup menu and disabled a number of things that I thought I didn't need:
Reader_sl (starts up the Adobe reader - Adobe is really bad about spreading their software everywhere on a system.)
J2GDllCmd (eFax messenger startup - which I don't need unless I get an eFax)
NeroCheck (Only used if there are problems writing the DVD)
PDVDServ (for a remote control of my DVD player on my computer - don't need that)
JavaUpdate (An updater that checks once a month for Java updates.)
Anyway, I booted and the NVIDIA driver loads and it looks good. I don't know if these changes actually helped or if this is just one of the random times the NVIDIA loaded. In any case, I am not going to reboot again so that I can spend some time using my computer. If it fails next time I reboot, I'll ping you.
