I believe this is because it takes a while for your oven to cool down (the cleaning cycle uses a very high temperature to burn up the grease and food). The timer is how long it takes before it will be cool, at which time the oven will unlock.

soundsas if theres an issue witht the latch assy not recoginzing teh door is closed, and for safety reasons with out door closing will not engage cleaning cycle
SOURCE: self-cleaning door lock is engaged and door won't
Hello,
I would first try resetting the breaker or unplugging the unit for a minute or two and see if that yield`s any success. If not...
Try holding the door switch pushed in.(or held closed in electrical terms) This may require a second person if you can`t reach the clock/timer while engaging the switch. With the switch held, set the unit for self-clean, let the lock advance to a "locked" position and once it indicates it is locked press cancel while still holding the switch closed. This should in theory force the lock to advance to it`s open/unlock position.
Hope that help`s. If so please rate the solution I provided.
Thanks for visiting fixya and good luck.

Self Cleaning Oven Problem

It appears your door lock mechanism has failed in this instance.
First - unplug the unit for 40 minutes and re-try.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.
Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.
Thank you for your post, Pattie Cromie!
I see that you would like to operate self-clean on your Frigidaire range and you do not have the manual. Typically, to start self-clean you would need to push the button labeled "Self-clean" and make sure there is nothing inside the oven before starting a self-clean cycle. Also before starting self-clean close the door because of the temperatures that are created within the oven the door needs to be closed and locked. I hope this has been beneficial. -Matt
