First be sure the handset battery is well charged as a weak
battery will interfere with the registration process.

Then try the following ( 'works for the D1680, D1481, and similar):

( I ) Deregister the handset:

Press and hold the [END] and [ # ] keys at the same time,
after a few seconds the display will say
"System Reset, Deregister Handset"
press [SELECT]
scroll to "Base Unavailable"
press [SELECT] (chirps) press [END]
display reads "Place in base..."

( II ) Now, to re-register the handset:

Set the handset into the base cradle and wait,
after ~30 seconds the handset should display
"Handset #" and be good to go...

...or it will display "Registration Failed"
If "...Failed", try from ( I ) again.

Good luck!

It got lock on initial programming needed

Dial *228 and press send. Listen for the prompt and press 1 to program your phone. Remain on the call while your phone is programmed (could take up to 2 minutes). Do not hang up until you hear, 'Your phone has been programmed successfully."
If that does not work call 1-800-922-0204 from another phone.

I have a vodavi suystem model 3501-01 and i have added 3 new ext that need basic programming. however everything i read on this system is it requires a 24 key phone. all the phones on this system are 8 key...

Yes you do need a 24 button phone to program the system, or the pc-admin software. I do not think you can do any programming thru hyperterminal, but may be wrong on that.

Initial programming needed.

Call your service provider to have it reprogrammed.
This means maybe someone deleted the basic programing features of your phone like phone number. or the system ID got bumped by a software error. or it could be that the phone just got flashed. i know the code to program the phone but if you don't know about internal programing it will do more damage than good. since it will kill your phone if any wrong settings is applied.
Best bet is to have your service provider tell you the programing code and settings to be changed. because they will be telling you over the phone what to do.

We had a power outage and have lost ringing on every phone appart from 1. We have had this before and program codes had to be put back in. Where can we get a copy of these codes to program?

You need to know which phone system you have. Your Norstar phone can work on a few different Norstar phone systems that all set up and program differently.

Once you determine which system you have you need a "Programming and Installation" manual for the system NOT a "user guide"
