By "holds suction" this means that you can depress the primer bulb and it remains in the "pressed" position and/or does not reinflate (for lack of a better term)?

You need to determine if a blockage exists in either one of the fuel lines, or with the primer bulb itself.

First, drain your fuel tank. Do this into a clear mason jar or equivalent and inspect your fuel to see if it is full of debris since even very small pieces of grass, dust, dirt, etc... can cause problems. If so, then you need to flush your fuel tank and or lines.

Viewing the backside of the primer bulb, you can see several clear fuel tubing lines that lead from the primer to the carbureator and fuel tank..

Next, carefully remove these using a pair of needle nosed pliers (or by hand is at all possible) being very careful not to crush or tear the tubing.

With the clear tubing removed, if the primer bulb will press in and immediately reinflates back to it's relaxed position, then one or more of your lines are clogged by a small piece of debris. If the primer still does not relax, then it is blocked by a small piece of debris or needs to be replaced (pick one up at Lowes, etc...).

If you determine that your lines may be clogged, then I have had success clearing them with a can of WD-40 by sticking the red nozzle into the clear tubing (attempt to make a seal) and by pressing for a half-second or so. If you get flow, then let it rip for a second, then proceed to rinse your fuel tank again just for good measure (basically until you get nothing but clean gas...no debris).

Put it all back together and let it rip!

Pe200 echo edger i have replaced the carbuator, fuel lines, primer ball it runs for about a minute then shuts off acting like its starving for gas

  • Did you replace the fuel filter in the gas tank on the end of the suction line? Also check the air filter and make sure it isn't clogged. When you press the primer bulb you should see gas being sucked thru the carburetor and returned to the gas tank if the fuel lines are connected properly. check the exhaust muffler if it is clogged the engine wont run very long if at all. if all else fails there is a fuel screen filter in the carburetor you may be able to backflush with carburetor cleaner.

Need to know how the fuel lines runfrom the gas tank, thru the primmer bulb and into the carb.

Primers on chainsaws/brush cutters pull fuel from the carb, into the bulb. and back to the tank, the short pipe on the primer is the suction side, this goes to the carb, the longer tube on the back of the primer is the pressure side, this goes back to tank, the fuel hose from the tank with the filter on the end goes to the fuel inlet on the carb

Fuel line goes into tank bottom line has filter how long is the top fuel line? this is coming from the primer bulb.

  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.
Take lots of notes and a few digital photographs to help with reassembly.

The line with the filter needs to be long enough to reach all parts of the tank as the saw is moved, a little to long is probably better than to short. The line returning from the primer is not critical so long as it cannot fall out (mid tank). All the primer line does is return excess fuel to the tank. Does this answer your question?

I am replacing the fuel tank assy and purge bulb (i.e. primer) on my Sears Craftsman model 358.798940. The original plastic tubing was old and brittle and broke apart while disassembling, so I could not...

The order of fuel travel should be:
Fuel filter to fuel hose to Carb's Fuel Supply nipple. (On the main body of the carb)
Primer Plate Nipple on carb to fuel hose to Suction Nipple on Primer Bulb. (It must pull fuel thru the carb, not push)
Pressure Nipple on Primer Bulb to fuel hose to Fuel Tank Return hose.

When correctly installed, the fuel will be PRESSED into the fuel tank via the return hose when primer is pressed in . . . and SUCTIONED out of the tank and into the Carburetor when primer in released.

Hope this helps,

I have a roybi 31cc weed eater and the fule line has become brittle and has broken apart. I need to know the layout of the new plastic fule line. I purchased a new fule line at Lowe's. I do not know wich...

STEP (1) The fuel supply line has the filter attached inside the fuel tank. The other end of that line goes on the carburetor's SUPPLY NIPPLE.

STEP (2) Determine the primer bulb's flow direction by pumping it under water. The unused nipple on the carb (IF STEP 1 WAS DONE CORRECTLY THERE IS ONE UNUSED NIPPLE STILL AVAILABLE ON THE CARB) will have a section of fuel line attached to it and running to the SUCTION NIPPLE (or pull-side, as some techs call it) of the primer bulb.

STEP(3) The final piece of fuel line goes from the OUTPUT NIPPLE (or push-side, as some techs call it) of the primer bulb and is routed back into the fuel tank as a return.

If plumbed properly, the primer should PULL fuel thru the carb and NOT pump any fuel into the engine. Excess fuel should be pumped back into the tank on each and every press of the primer.

Hope this helps!

The primer bulb does not draw fuel thru carb

you need to buy a primer bulb kit and replace it cost about $8.00 and is easy to put in, the check valve is damaged.

Gasline mixup

one line comes directly from the fuel tank (the one with the filter) to the inlet side of the of the carbruetor ( the bottom fitting on the carb.usually)
the other line coming out of the fuel tank is the return fuel line and it hooks up to the outlet side of the two fittings on the primer bulb
the other side of the primer bulb goes to the only fitting left to hook to at the carbruetor.

you have 2 different length fittings on the primer bulb itself
the longer fitting is your return line hook it up to your tank side and the short one goes to carb.fitting
when you get it hooked up press the bulb several times and see if it primes as it should(fuel moving thru lines) from tank thru carb. thru primer back to tank

Replacing fuel tank on craftsman edger and other fuel lines.......do not understand where to hook fuel lines back up?  any diagrams?

ok If you have a Walbro WT series carb "without" a built on primer bulb here it is. First off if the fuel lines disintegrated you MUST disassemble it and clean it out. The MOST infintesimle speck of gas line trapped, can allow good prime and bad operation. OK? Don't be lazy on this. Just be delicate removing the flaps gasket and diaphram. ZAMA GND-12 Is the replacement Gasket and diaphram kit fot that carb. Use a cleaner, compressed air or blow good thru it. OK Now...Primer bulb, Carb, and Fuel tank, re connects: Smaller Diameter line comes from Gas tank (Connect filter screen to this in tank) to the short Straight brass carb connector. Primer bulb suction goes to the bent carb brass connector. If small line brings fuel "in" this other line sucks it back "Thru the primer bulb" and the blow side of the primer bulb sends it back to the fuel tank! So...Small Line brings fuel "TO/IN" carb thru short brass connect on carb. Other carb connect goes to bulb suction "IN", Then primer bulb "Pressure OUT" goes thru the larger tube "back to fuel tank". Trust me I know how frustrating a simple diagram is to find online fo this set up. And if you have a carb problem on top of the hook up uncertainty you got frustration. Not only was online help hard to find (Mfg...etc NFG at all!) My local repairshop in BBrook NJ could not tell me how!!! and thats no lie! Walbro has a "generic" carb diagram but no "hook up info" specifically. Poulan don't list it either. And these things routinly fall to pcs. all 3 of mine crumpled together on yr. 3 of use.
