Try with a small usb first (say a 8GB USB)
if that works, you need to read the specs of your TV for supported drives and size maximumx

if it doesn`t, then you need to read the specs of your TV for supported drives

Card error???

Depending on the size of the xD card, your camera may need a firmware update to be able to read xD cards larger than 256mb. If the card used to work but now doesn't, try formatting it as FAT16 or FAT32 while it's inserted into the camera. If you still get an error and you have a card reader on your PC, try formatting it from there as FAT16 or FAT32 file formats.

My macbook recognizes hard drive fine but no other devices will. I'm wanting to run the hard drive through either PS3 or a Cyclone HDMI adapter so i can watch my movies on my tv, i've formatted the drive...

You may need to change the partition map scheme. I imagine it is using the GUID partition and should be the Master Boot Record. The best way to do this is to select the drive in Disk Utility, then choose the Partition tab. Change the Current partition to one, click on the options button, choose Master Boot Record (MBR) then click OK. Then on the format drop-down menu change the format to Free Space, then click Apply and OK. Then the drive is ready to format with FAT32 that your PS3, etc. can recognize. To do this click on the Erase tab, choose FAT32 in the Format drop-down menu, name the drive, click apply and OK. The drive should now work cross-platform on Macs, PCs, and media devices. Please let me know if you have any questions.

My Sanyo LCD 40XR10F TV does not recongnise any mp4 movies i have on my external hardrive or usb stick?? Does it matter what size usb disk/drive/how many files are stored on them for it to play them?

Before you loaded the hard drive, and USB did you run a "Check File System" through the TV? These devices in order to use the "Time Shift Function", have to have pass with "SUCCESS", displayed on the screen. If not the TV will format a 4GB FAT32 filing system for you. The reason your MP4's might not work might be due to a firmware update that no longer supports MP4. You should have been OK if you recorded the material from the TV. Items you record from the TV will not play on any other device. Using the FAT32 format only allows 4GB but, the TV allow 8GB and a external device can be FAT32 format to 8GB. 8GB is only 2 hours of viewing time. So that should give you some idea how little the amount of files can be handled.

I am using Mac and I can not change the permission on my hard drive 320 G Signature Mini to write it only lets me read what do I ...

Ahhh, this is a common problem. The only file system that is both Windows and Apple compliant is the FAT32 file system format. You will have to back up everything and reformat to FAT32.

If you use FAT32 you are restricted to on 4GB files... That means no movies, no long recording, nothing :-/

_OR_

You can format the HDD with your Apple computer and have no restrictions. That file format is called Mac OS Extended Journalled. I reccomend this but keep in mind, it is NOT readable with all non-Mac friendly operating systems, especialy Windows :)

Xp not recognizing my 250gb WD passport

The Western Digital My Passport line, besides the Essential Series, is originally formated for a Mac (in the HFS+ format) and as such cannot be read by Windows PCs. You can either get a program to read the External such as Macdrive, or format it to NTFS or FAT32; formats that are readable by Windows. I would recommend formatting it to NTFS, because you can only transfer up to 4 Gigabyte files to FAT32, while NTFS is nearly limitless.

Which Portable hard drive can be used with both a Windows PC and an Apple iMac please

Hello

Well, you can basically buy any external drive and it will work on both operating systems if you format it to a FAT32 format.

If you buy a new drive, you first need to delete the partition on the new drive using Fat32 formatter, and then format it in Fat32 file system.
Here is a link to where you can download the software for free, and get instructions on how to do this.

Hope this can help.

Wd passport will not load to my xbox 360

Re: My passport Elite 500 will not show up my Xbox360 Options 12-30-2009 11:19 AM
if it's the drive that comes with the smartware, then it comes pre-formatted NTFS , and your xbox needs FAT32 format to work.

So, you need to connected this drive on a mac computer to format to ms dos FAT32, or use a formatting utility like "partition magic" to format the drive to fat32, then if there's password assigned remove it, and it should work
