Yes, somewhat. I have done this on other makes, and I think they will be the entire hub unit with bearing not replaceable separately. Not really hard, but requires torque wrench which reads to 200 ft lbs for proper reinstallation.

Your best bet would be to by a replacement enclosure. Online retailers like newegg.com can sell you one. Find out if your hard disk is SATA or IDE. You can then buy an appropriate external enclosure and move the hard drive inside your WD encloseure into the new one.

i believe you are referring to the constant velocity joints (CV joints)
they aren't that hard to replace. but somewhat involved.

for a temp fix enter setup ,disable s.m.a.r.t function then reboot , should be fine for awhile at least long enough to back up all you need ,till u replace the drive, or run it til it dies.could be a day or years.

all hard drives run at the same speed, if its a sata drive data access is quicker but that is memory relient, you can repace the hard drive but you'd have to shop around for a good deal, i recomend seagate because they have a five year warranty on them, installing them is fairly easy you'll just have to install a brand new operating system as new hard drives come unformatted
