SOURCE: Troy Bilt Tiller tines do not engage

You likely have a clutch problem, never saw one that a simple adjustment would fix. I'd take off the tiller (there are two bolts that hold the tiller portion to the transmission, and check to make sure the clutch is sliding in and out. My hunch is either the lever is loose on the shaft or the allen-head little bolt that they use to shift the clutch has come out. Be sure to grease the clutch while you're in there.

This should be covered in your owners manual. Shame on them if they didn't mention this.

Hi bh1149...
You have bad gears on the inside of the tiller gear box...
I had this same problem with mine.
You will have to take the gearbox apart in order to know what parts are bad.
Be sure to check the lube more often when you install the new gears/parts.
Go to the following website and order your parts.

Head bolts are probably loose, check the 3 nearest the mouffler and of course check all of them.

MY ROTOTILLER RUNS AND DRIVES BUT THE TINES WONT TURN

Make sure that the clutch doges as I call them are engaging properly. Also check rear tine gearbox for striped gears or sheared keys. To check some of these things it may be necessary to remove rear tine gearbox by removing the 4 bolts that hold it on to the main transmission. Hope this helps.

Tines will not turn when engeged. made a grinding

It sounds like a problem with the drive pulley on the engine to me. Maybe the key is striped.

Troy bilt horse pto clutch will not disengage

The problem is lack of lubrication in the pto coupling. Losen the two swing bolts carefuly, block the front under the motor. Separate the tine transmision from the housing and grease both sides with as much grease as you can work in. Work the lever as you do this. Should fix the problem.
