I'm getting reference that it a Gentron GG3500 which has brushes and an AVR.

With producing some voltage indicates that rotor is still partially magnetized at least. Note some will cost nearly as much as replace to whole generator.

Common Problems and solutions

  • Demagnetized rotor. Re-initialize
  • Bad brushes. Replace
  • Glaze contact rings. Clean
  • Shorted or open rotor. Replace
  • Bad AVR. Replace
  • Bad field supplying the AVR voltage control voltage. Replace alternator stator.

SOURCE: Generac portable generator doesn't produce power

Remove front cover on the genset and you will see the brushes and rings. Clean the rings if black with emory cloth and inspect brushes. Flash the fields by apply a 12V battery to the brushes. the brush closest to you or the bearing is connected to the positive side of battery and the back brush is negative. You have to do this with genset running. You should notice your voltage climb up to over 50Vac maybe even over 100Vac. Make sure to use rubber gloves when flashing fields and keep hands away from rotating parts. if voltage does increase when flashing the the voltage regulator is shot. If voltage does not climb then you will need a new genset or generator end.

SOURCE: engine runs but no power aat outlet????

Start with brushes and rings. Make sure your rings are clean and the your brushes have a good length. Flash the fields with 12V battery. Apply positive to the brush nearest the bearing and negative to the back brush, while genset is running. Use rubber gloves when doing this and keep hands away from rotating parts. You should see the voltage climb when you flash the fields. This would mean that you need a voltage regulator. If voltage does not climb, then you will need a new genset.

SOURCE: Older Coleman 3500 Watt generator, sitting for

there can be many reasons. need more info:
Is it Inverter typr generator?

measure output voltage - anything?
take back cover off generator itself, measure continuity of stator and rotor, and visually inspect windings. You'll find AVR module there too, it may be the reason.

Need wiring diagram, from alternator to plug-ins for briggs & Stratton (3500) Elite series Model # 030208-0

No wiring diagram available from Briggs. Try re-magnetizing the rotor. No AVR or Capacitor listed in the parts list.

Disconnect the wires to brushes ( pay attention to the order) and apply 12vdc to brushes. Positive goes to brush closest to the bearing. Start the generator and check for output. If output is normal run the unit a few minutes to ensure re-magnetization then shut down normally. After shut down disconnect the 12 vdc source and re-install the previous disconnected wires. Now re start the generator and test for output should be okay provide there is no problems with the alternator. If no output during the above re-magnetization then your rotor windings my burned out.

Coleman 3500 with subaru engine no power to outlets

Hello there.
I'm assuming that engine runs fine. if there's no power output then the AVR or carbon brushes are dead. remove the back cover of the alternator very carefully and look at the center to find the rotor rings and check if the plastic brush holder hasn't melt or heat deformed and make sure the brushes make good contact against the rotor rings. if everything's fine then the AVR is dead. The AVR is a crescent shaped plastic container similar to this one.

replace it with any similar found on Ebay, just make sure that connectors and cables are similar in shape and number. Regards

What faults can a change over switch caurse between the generator and the load

One consideration is how many circuits and how much total wattage is being used when the generator is in service.
"Gas Powered Generator GG2300 2300 Watts Surge 2000 Watts Continuous Output 10 Hours of Run Time at Full ."
This is a relatively small generator with 2000 watts output, so the problem may be that the generator can not handle the wattage demand. You can get a pretty good estimate of the wattage demand by adding up the wattage of everything , all lights, appliances, etc that's being powered by the generator. If the total wattage is greater than the output of the generator (2000 watts) then the generator is too small.

How do you flash a Coleman Powermate 3500 generator? Runs fine; no electrical output

See some of my responses to other peoples generator problems.
If you have no or very little electrical output, then you have overloaded the generator by placing a demand for too many amps from too many appliances for the size of the generator. You will have blown a capacitor, resistor, or similar item. Someone with a good electrical background will need to diagnose the problem and find the blown part.
