Hi Andrew - There are several hacked firmware files for this camera. Most that I have seen deal with allowing 3rd party battery usage, 17 minute video, unlimited video and variable shutter and aperture control during video recording. There may be others. I suggest you either (a) contact eBay and open a dispute resolution ticket to return the camera to get your money back or (b) try installing an authentic Nikon 3100 firmware from & as per instructions on the site:

https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18725

Understand that option (a) is preferential. If for some reason you can not do (a) then (b) would be the next step. Any time firmware is updated, there is a risk of damaging the hardware. This is especially true if power is removed during the process - but other things can happen, too. Finally, if (b) doesn't work for you then you may have to hack the firmware as shown in the link below (or your choice of hacks):

*THIS ALSO WORKS ON NIKON D5100*

Finally after 4 years we have a hacked/custom firmware that enable full manual video control on the Nikon D3100 DSLR. Just like the D3200 or Canon 5D, 7D ect. you can simple adjust the shutter speed/angle and the ISO sensitivity of video as well as the usual aperture control. You can even adjust shutter speed while recording!

is it possible to reinstall firmware once its been hacked? Or is there a hack that is specifically to go over an already hacked camera?

  • Steve Nov 21, 2014

Sometimes, firmware can only be updated to newer versions. Other times, you can go back to an earlier firmware version of you choosing; or be limited by the manufacturer to only go back to a certain point. You *should* be able to reinstall firmware if it is the same version number or higher than the one curently installed. If the hacked firmware changed the version number to one that is greater than is officially available and *if* Nikon prevents rolling back to an "older" firmware version - it's going to be a problem. I don't expect it would fail catestrophically - but rather provide a message that it "could not be upgraded", or similar. Display the installed version of the firmware on the camera via menu (details on how to do that are on the Nikon firmware page I provided). If reports that it is a version that is the same or less as the one offered by Nikon - you should be able to re-install it. Contacting Nikon support about reinstalling firmware is the ultimate source for an answer on this though. Or - you may "brick" the camera. That's not likely - but is *possible* when dealing with firmware. I'm assuming you want to press forward with a firmware change because you cannot return the camera, so when uploading firmware, make sure you've got fully charged batteries installed *first*. Good luck!

SOURCE: flashing red square area in viewfinder.

No, I don't think so, there could be differences between the Auto and the P setting. But the red flashing is where your camera is currently focusing on. It's possible that the black was indicating the focus box, but it was not latched on to something with complete focus, which then is indicated by the red flashing. Check this link to read up further on this. I may not have pinpointed it exactly, because I have a D70s, but that's what I found so far. You'll maybe have to reset everything and see if it's still there, otherwise, it's a setting. =)

SOURCE: Nikon Coolpix L4 flash not working

This has happened to mine a couple of times. I cannot select flash, and the blur indicator is on most of the time.
Solution is to go into 'menu', select 'SET UP' then 'reset all'. My flash selection then works again.
Since one doesn't tend to set much up with a basic camera like this, resetting shouldn't cause any issues.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: New 4GB CF card for E5400, camera gives 'out of memory' message

So far as I am aware, the 5400 will support only up to 2GB cards. As to the firmware upgrade you mention, I don't recall that that has any bearing on the max. card capacity; but it's worth doing for the RAW format support (for me, at least). Cheers and good shooting. Davo, Tas.

Unlock codes for nokia e71

Nokia staff don't give answers here in the forum but for sure they are reading all our posts as I made a typographical error yesterday with apparently a third party application (instead of typing "NSU"- i typed something else) that can apparently debrand your phone - which I don't know of anyway.

Again abour 5 minutes ago, my answer to somenoe's thread have been deleted as I mentioned about "screws" on the back of the phone.

This forum "to me" is most pathetic forum where you post problems, and nokia support don't give help, and they delete answers that might help other users.

It seems to me they are only using us a guinea pigs to test their phones and their firmware/software. If nokia can't afford to pay testers, they should stop manufacturing **bleep** phones, or stop selling them.

Hi Yesterday i upgrading my Samsung wave s8500 firmware. while upgrading internet connection is Disconnect and now my phone only shows one picture on display whenever i tried to USE it... PICTURE i.e One...

Step I: Download the latest version of Samsung Kies from official site of Samsung Kies. The latest version of Kies is: Kies_2.0.0.11044.

OR

You can download it from here: Samsung Kies Download Link

Step II: Open Samsung Kies and connect your Samsung Wave with PC (Wait for driver installation, if you have attached your phone for the first time with your pc)

As soon as Kies will detect your phone it will offer a prompt of new firmware update available, see the screenshot below

Firmware upgrade prompt

Click on UPDATE button

Step III: Now you will face a window of 'Agree to the Terms and Conditions." You can choose the option of save and don't save the information. This option is that, Samsung will store your information of IP and hardware specifications on their servers for 2 years. It is totally dependent on you, which you want to choose.

We would like to recommended you to choose "Allow saving"

Upgrade Terms & Conditions

Hit START UPGRADE button

Step IV: It is strongly recommended not to disconnect your phone from PC until the upgrading process is complete. So take care of it.

Within few minutes (depends upon the speed of your internet connection). Upgrading process will move on and will complete successfully.

Upgrade in Progress

Note: Don't use any options on your phone, while the upgrading process is taking place, your phone will be restarted. DON'T PANIC!

Your phone will come to working state automatically and your Samsung Wave is successfully upgraded to Bada 1.2

I have just bought a Nikon D3100 but haven't taken a photo yet as I can't get rid of the info display. i either have info display or a black screen.

Hi, With DSLR's you're supposed to look through the view finder to take a picture however if you'd like to use live view on the LCD you need to turn live view on. If you look on the back of your camera there's a toggle around the red record button, you switch it and it'll turn live view on. If you need anymore help feel free to contact me and I can give you a hand =)

My touchscreen not work what's problem.& solution set is samsung star gt s5233s i use internet very much

This can either be a problem with firmware or hardware. If this happened after you upgraded or flashed the firmware then it probably because you used the wrong firmware. If you haven't done any updates then this is most likely a hardware. If it's the later then you need to buy and replace new touch screen from stores like ebay. Mostly comes with instruction, so should be fairly easy to fit.
