I came to the same conclusion and ordered a new planetary. This one isn't pinned either. Where can I get the updated version?

Hey Charles I got your response...So!! You can't get the new planetary because the whole motor and shaft housing are different from the pro 600 that you have, You are going to have to order a new old part. sorry.

I was afraid of that. You mentioned a gasket for the gear case cover. I can't seem to find that as a separate item. Unless you know of an alternative, it seems I have to buy the gear case too. For the planetary, I have a drill press. I'll bet I can pin it together myself.

If the gear case is plastic then yes by all means replace it even if it isn't cracked, the gasket is under the gear case cover and the gear grease required is 2 OZ the parts can be found at Stand Mixer Gasket - 9709511 ,http://www.appliancezone.com/SearchProdu...

or this one at the same place. Now that's where the parts can be found, now I have already built a jig to repair the problem. I hope I can explain it here. put the shaft back into the planetary, then drill hole through the planetary side that holds the shaft from the outside all the way through to the other side. then order a planetary pin from the same site for a K45SS, that pin will fit snuggly in the hole and will fit side to side, I have repaired this for several peeps and on one shaft I had to grind one end down just a hare so that it was flush once inserted. Now I have a shop so it took about 20 minutes to make the jig and drill the hole. You do need a drill press to keep the planetary fixed so that it it stays true while drilling. The ones I fixed have had no problem. the first one I fixed I did with a set screw from one side but it actually threw the weight off and one side would grind due to the weight differential so a full drill hole from side to side did the trick and it stays in balance. Hope this helps.

This is a fairly easy fix but you need a new planetary, some new grease a new gasket and about an hour. The planetary for your machine is a recent design, that did not work. the planetary and the shaft has been milled with grooves and they are pressed together at the factory. The tolerance was deemed to be tight enough to keep the shaft and the planetary together during the life of the machine....but sadly this became a common problem. They have since fixed the problem in the new design. They went back to pins and retaining clips from pre 2006. Your fix is inexpensive and ther are several videos on the internet showing you step by step how to do it yourself. Hope this helps.

Your explanation is crystal clear. How big a drill bit do I need? I might already have it. My hat\'s off to you sir, and I\'m raising a glass to your good health. I will tame this bugger.

I beleive it was a metric drill and was just over 1/8th inch (go figure :)) I would order the pin first when it arrives measure it. You will see that the pin has been milled with three raised edge profiles on it, those profiles keep the pin wedged in it's hole very nicely, I am going to try and upload some pictures here of the jig it may help a little more.the pin that I used was from and old K45ss mixer.crud I have to reduce all the photos to 500k sry.

I wouldn't worry about the pictures; your explanation is clear enough. Once upon a time, in another life, I used to repair power tools and I know what's involved. I'm going to install the new old part and wait for it to fall off again. In the meantime I'm going to get the pin and drill my hole. When it goes queep again I'll be ready. Thank you sir. You've been more than helpful.

The planetary plate fell off. How do I get it back on

Not familiar with that model, does it have a pin through the planetary that has vanished? If so it will be in the last cake mixture.

To lube the planetary you take off the drip ring and knock out the pin that retains the planetary to lube the planetary gear. If you want to do the gearbox you need to continue and split the gear cases. Back cover off and 9 case screws. That's it, you are in where all the grease is.

Leaking oil

To remove the planetary you knock the silver pin out with a punch. There is no 'oil' as such in the machine. Sure it is oil but it is breaking down out of the grease. It is harmless and food grade so nothing to worry about. The grease should not have got to the point it needs replacing until it is about 5 years old. I would remove the planetary and wipe the shaft clean and any excess inside the planetary remembering that you do need to leave some lubrication on the gear teeth in there.

KP26M1XMR beater shaft falls off

The beater shaft on the 6 quart mixers is part of the planetary assembly. The planetary and center shaft are pressed together, and sometimes they will come apart. The only way to fix this is to replace the planetary or you can have the planetary machine pressed back together.

It is a lot cheaper and less expensive to just replace the planetary. Here is a link to the Planetary Assembly on our website. http://www.mendingshed.com/9708662.html

The planetary fell off the mixer a few months ago. It has done it a few times since but happens much more often now. When I went to put it back on this time I noticed the that you put it on was very...

The planetary is held in by a push pin. I suspect this is missing. Now the base where the planetary inserts is damaged and allows a wobble. This is very bad since that is molded into the main case of the mixer.

Have a kitchenaid stand mixer Model # KP26N9XER the attachment hub is not turning correctly it only turns a liitle at a time with a thumping sound. Opened up looked at the gears and their are bits of metal...

Obtain a copy of the Repair Part List for your model from Kitchenaid.com
Download the Service Manual :
http://www.kitchenaidparts.be/centers/servicemanual/mixer.pdf

It is not exactly for your model but you can learn a lot from it.
Open up your mixer. Get rid of all the grease. Replace the Worm Gear.
Use fresh Kitchenaid Food Grade Grease on all gears.

Caution: Do not use a screwdriver to pry out the Planetary Assembly.

The rotating head on the mixer keeps falling off. how do you get it to stay on? it comes off when were mixing.

The Planetary plate comes attached to the shaft from the factory. It is not supposed to get
loose and come apart but it often does due to the mixer's vibrations and the user's constant
attaching and removals of the flat beater, wire whip or dough hook onto the beater shaft.
Try to remove the Planetary plate first : Gently rock it from side to side while pulling on it
to separate from the shaft. Notice the groves on both the shaft and inside the planetary
housing. That is how they are attached to one another at the factory (just friction, no screws
or pins). Now for a permanent solution:
Take a trip to Home Depot or Ace hardware and buy the J-B Industro Weld Compound
(Not the 5 minute type). Mix an equal amount from both tubes (Black and Red). Use a Q-Tip
and apply a thin layer of the mixture on both the shaft (grooved section) and inside the
planetary housing. Now re-attach the planetary plate to the shaft. Use a long strip of duct tape
to hold the plate in place (to prevent it from falling back out). Allow the epoxy to dry overnight
or at least for 8 hours.
The Planetary assembly is now permanently attached to the shaft of the mixer.

Planetary housing fell off

BRUCE, sorry for the initial solution... I had a total brain cramp of what you were describing and after reflecting on your original problem and then seeing your second entry realized what happened. You are absolutely correct that the planetary shaft is press fit onto the planetary housing. For whatever reason, I overlooked that.
I cannot explain why it the housing came of the shaft, but suspect that vibrations during its use caused the fitting to loosen and the planetary housing to fall off.
You have two options. Option #1) Purchase a new planetary assembly that includes the agitator shaft, which will run between $35~$57, plus S&H depending on the vendor or Option #2) try to reattach the planetary housing back onto planetary shaft. (BTW, if you reorder the planetary use the part number from your Parts List manual for your particular color and model, not the 9078036 number you found on the housing)
I suspect the planetary housing’s spline well has already been weakened and there may be micro-cracking which is not clearly evident so the refitting may or may not work. Of course it may be worth trying and fit back together without any problems.
Since it will be difficult to get good mechanical advantage by hitting the planetary housing back onto the planetary shaft while the mixer is upright, you will need to remove the planetary shaft from the transmission housing before you attempt to hammer the shaft back onto the planetary housing.
If you attempt to refit the planetary shaft back to its housing, place the housing on a piece of soft wood to protect the enamel paint before you start to hammer the shaft. Also use a piece of wood on the top of the shaft so you don’t accidentally damage the top of the shaft with your hammer. Good luck. I hope this solution was more helpful than my first one. – hslincoln, Burke, VA -
