First you must try and determine where exactly the leak is coming from. Maybe its just a simple blown seal or gasket.

Emerson is not the name of the pump, that's the brand of the motor attached to the wet end, and the two together make a pump.
1081/1563 only means that it meets the standards for a pool motor.

The internal seals are bad and it could be from bearing wear. Replace the unit. They are not that expensive.

The use-and-care manual says that the 'product will eventually fail,' and to install a drain catch pan.
The product has stainless steel tank with 3 year warranty. 1-800-558-5700.
The manual does not show parts diagram, element, or anode rod. This indicates that operation is inside a sealed 1-piece unit not meant for repairs.
High clorine content of water, and hard water, and water pressure over 80 psi will adversely affect any tank heater, and shorten lifespan causing probable leak.

Turn off power:
If you can remove cover from H770, then inspect 750 watt element for possible leaking. Then replace with new element of unknown type if element is leaking.
If leaking is coming from the tank itself, then the unit cannot be repaired. This is true for all tank water heaters.

When you sealed the holes outside, you trapped the water inside. The unit is designed to let the water run to the bottom of the pan and then go out the holes outside. Try unplugging one of them and see if that fixes the problem. Hope this helps.
