Installing a microwave / convection oven above a stovetop

I removed the microwave oven above my cook stove and im replacing it with a microwave / convection oven that is the same size. I am wondering if the new combonation needed to be vented out of the house or where the original microwave vented in to the cabinet above the stove is acceptable?

Needs to be properly vented to outside the house. Only install a microwave that's designed for over-stove use in this space.

SOURCE: the fan starts up and runs on its own and we are cooking

That is a normal safety feature.

That's only covered in a very subtle note in the hood fan section of your owner's manual:

NOTE:If the temperature gets too hot around the
microwave oven, the fan in the vent hood will
automatically turn on at the HIGH setting to cool the
oven. It may stay on up to an hour. When this
occurs, the fan can not be turned off.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, you can download it here.

Enter your model number as MV1610ST with no spaces.

You will need the free DJVU viewer to view or print your manual.

SOURCE: Does stove-top need downdraft if microwave has oven-hood combo?

We have a stove with no downdraft, and a microwave with a hood above it. It works just fine. I expect you could keep your downdraft and put a microwave without a hood above it, and that would also work. I don't think, however, you can buy an above the range mocrowave oven, that slides in on brackets, which will not have a hood.

SOURCE: How do I remove an old wall mounted Microwave.

I just removed mine this morning and was having the same problem, though mine did have the screws above going into the unit. You may have to pop the front vent cover off to locate the screws going to the wall bracket, if so remove those. Also, there are 2 tabs on the bottom of the wall bracket that the back bottom edge of the microwave slip into, keeping the microwave from being pulled forward. Tilt the microwave slightly forward and push the bottom back edge of the microwave up to clear the tabs. Hope this helps.

Condensation between door glasses

This moisture can accumulate from certain types of cooking (lots of boiling) in the microwave or in extreme cases, from a blocked grease filter or exhaust vent duct.

Spills or large amounts of accumulated moisture should be wiped off. Minor amounts can dry out by themselves easier if you leave the door open after cooking.

Also, when boiling on the stovetop, you should always use the hood vent exhuast fan to keep steam and grease out of the controls and the door area of the microwave. I always recommend using the vent fan with any cooking on the stovetop.

As long as it is not rusting the metal mesh screen or other parts of the door, it can be allowed to dry out over a period of days with the door open.

If it is a convection microwave, using the convection heat will help it dry.

KitchenAid Model: KHHS179L Serial No: TR3314099 Experiencing heavy sparking. Where is Wave Guide cover, and how to replace it if necessary. Oven is mounted above stove and too heavy for this old man...

In your owner's manual (available free online here) this is called the "microwave inlet cover".

See the tag in your oven cooking cavity or near the door frame for your full model number.

The cover is located in the ceiling of the oven.

You should be able to remove and clean or replace the cover without removing the oven from the wall.

The oven installation instructions and parts list are also on that page.

You can also find handy exploded views and order any needed parts and accessories by model or part number here.

Please note that FixYa is not currently notifying us Experts when Clarification Requests are answered.

So please post a
NEW question, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, as well as the answers to these questions:

Which fan is it?

The
internal cooling fan, which comes on automatically whenever the unit is microwaving?

Or the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually?

Or the convection fan, if it is a convection model?

When is it coming on?

Is it coming on whenever you cook on the stove top?

Thanks!

How do I install a replacement Frigidaire over the stovetop microwave - professional series, without removing the cabinet above it? I need to know how to best remove the existing microwave.

Remove everything from the inside of the microwave, (such as glass tray). Unplug the microwave, probably in the cabinet above. There are two screws in the cabinet above the microwave, near the front, that supports the front of the microwave. The back is hooked on a mounting plate attached to the wall behind it. An assistant is a good idea though this can be accomplished alone. It is best to move the stove out, if you are going to try alone. Please be carefl there is considerable weight to support here. Support the front of the microwave while the two screws are removed in the cabinet above. Slowly tilt the front of the unit down until you can pull the cord out of the bottom of the cabinet. With the front still tipped down, lift the back from it's support and remove it.

I always recommend that folks use the vent / hood fan anytime they're cooking with the stove.

Was it on at the time?

If not, moisture can certainly get into the works and cause problems or damage. If it dries out, it's fine but if not, it could cause damage.
