Change the settings from the display settings panel. (Right click on the desktop and go to display settings)
You should see 2 monitors graphically represented there.
You can make the monitor that is greyed out active by right clicking on the monitor, and selecting active.

There should be a display toggle key on your keyboard. This will toggle the display from the external display to the laptop lcd. Try pressing the Fn + F5 key to toggle the display.

Look onto your keyboard. There is a key that looks like 2 oval one shaded the other clear. Press FN and that key with the symbol on it. It will turn off your LCD and put it into the other. Then hit it again, both screens will have power, but slightly dim, press it once more to turn it off.
Good Luck
SOURCE: my acer travelmate will not boot up, please help
Well I have the same problem, I think it is a BIOS problem because after the acer screen it says Windows did not start succesfully. I saw start Windows normally but it has that "blink of an eye flash" as well, then it goes back and tries to boot up again. Maybe take it to a shop to get fixed.

Insert your restore CD if errors are found and not fixed by the checkdisk function listed above. Turn your computer off and then back on. You'll beasked to hit any button to boot from your CD; press any key. You will then beasked if you want to install a fresh version of your OS or "Repair" acurrent copy. Choose the "Repair" option.
