Always be sure the batteries are charged.
Insert the batteries correct plus to plus and minus to minus. Only one battery the wrong way around and the camera won't work. Check contacts of the batteries and in the battery compartment of your camera. Dirty or oxidised contacts can be cleaned with a dry cloth. Never use sharp tools to clean contacts or anything in or on your camera.
Always charge the batteries before using it for the first time, or if you have not used it for a long period. 3 months is a very long period.
Also check if the battery door is closed correct. Most cameras do have a switch connected to the battery door. If the switch does not work correct, it could be you can't switch on your camera.
Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In most cases, alkaline batteries have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended.
Never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries in your camera. They can't deliver enough power and can start leaking, causing damage to your camera.

Even after putting a new fully charged battery camera shows battery empty

The reason you are still getting this error despite the fact that you've placed a new fully charged battery means that the battery is not compatible with the camera. The fact that it states this is because the battery isn't capable of handling the Olympus camera. I would suggest for you to buy a recommended battery pack by Olympus, or a rechargeable battery pack to avoid these errors.

Shows empty battery even with new batteries

If they're AA, don't use "HEAVY DUTY". They don't have enough power. Use alkaline or rechargeable, and recharge at least 15 hours even if your charger show they're fully charged after a couple hours. Please leave feedback if this helps.

Drained batteries

Digital cameras do use a lot of power to operate. Somethings can make the batteries die faster. Even if the batteries may have worked in other cameras after ou used them in yours could just be that the other camera requires less power to operate then yours. Turning off and on the camera or simple viewing them can use more power then usual. Try and avoid this to see if it last longer. Also, try and see if there is an auto shut of to save power when you leave the camera on. If you have an eye piece use that to take pictures instead of the display this will also save on power consumption. Also, when you know that you won't be using the camera for awhile meaning you are storing it then remove the batteries. Some electrical items even if the camera is off they can still be draining the batteries.

If these don't help then I would have it looked at especially if you are under warranty.
