I have the same problem. I have a Lexmark X5070 All in one Printer and recently it will not scan anything. It says "Cannot Retrieve Application list". I've updated my drivers for it, I've tried shutting it off and turning it back on, I tried unplugging the USB from the back waiting 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Nothing seems to be working.
I also have been having problems printing with it too, but thats not related to the topic

try boosting the power couplings followed by initiating the inter-active recipter valve. Once you see the deflanger code type in +.ak234//pp.HO.
This open up the transducer allowing the flow of typherical codes that was being block preventing you scanner from downloading the application list.
If this doesn't work, write your Congressman.

This doesn’t help fix all printers because each situation is
different and in most cases we don’t have enough information to determine the
fix. So hope this will provide some
help.
Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect
the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do
both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer
to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
