As per HP compaq website there are no listed drivers for Windows 7. Compaq Presario 5000 Desktop Pc supports drivers up till Windows XP. the problem you are facing is because drivers for those function has not been installed.

    in case that you've got ProgramFiles ( x86...) instaled on winVista/win7 ( home premium/pro/ultimate) -, there's no problem with XP's drivers ..Automatically stored to the mentioned file .

You need to download the driver for your computer. Its usually provided by company web.

power your unit - press F9 for boot options - insert your 7 disk into cd rom and choose boot from CD-ROM. Follow instructions provided from install disk.

Brightness keys f2 and f3 not working after i replaced the hard disk
The brightness keys on laptops are interpreted by either the laptop hardware, or more likely, the operating system.
I would recommend going to HP's support site, http://support.hp.com, and downloading the latest chipset drivers from the site.
If you are running Windows 7 than try the Vista drivers if Win 7 is not listed as an operating system.

You can download the Microsoft virtual machine or another VM system.

After install make a virtual hard drive on your VM machine of at least10 gig. Then add your DVD/CD rom drive to the VM and put yourinstall CD/DVD in the drive. Set VM machine to boot from CD.Install on VM hard drive from within the VM machine, Type in KEY code,Bam! you now have a win xp VM!(Note: Games and stuff may not work in the VM as they do not use your video card but a virtual video card that is pretty limited!)

Make sure you Press and Hold the FN key then hit the key that increases or decreases the volume. If the FN key is not held down while you press the volume keys, they will do nothing. The brightness works the same way, you must Press and Hold the FN key then hit the key that controls the brightness.

I installed windows 7 and now my function keys don't work
You need to install the drivers, windows does not recognize these additional buttons until the proper drivers are loaded. Depending on manufacturer windows 7 drivers may or may not be available. Microsoft did something smart with windows 7 by allowing you to use windows vista drivers in windows 7. So if there are no win 7 drivers just download and install the vista drivers. Good luck!
