Just slide it down like that. And that's how it looks like when it's all put together. I see this can lock down for storage.

How do I remove the plunger for washing?

The plunger on mine cannot be removed. I just checked it to make sure. If you remove it, you have broken the unit. Just rinse with water. The plunger should not get dirty of used properly. A rinse under running water is enough.

How should I dry lettuce if I don't have a salad spinner?

I don't have a salad spinner at home. All I do it rinse the lettuce, leave it basically "standing up" inside of a collander and let the water drip off. If I don't have enough time to leave it til it drys on its own, I sometimes shake it out and then wrap in it paper towel for a few minutes.

Is it true that it isn't good to put mushrooms in a salad spinner?

I haven't heard that but I'm guessing the myth has more to do with getting mushrooms wet. Some chefs say that if by washing mushrooms off with water, it rids them of some of their earthy flavor. Many chefs at nice resaurants simply rub the dirt off of mushrooms, not soak them.

I've got mould in the little squares of my salad spinner. What's the best way to clean it?

I'm guessing that your salad spinner is made of plastic. If you don't have a dishwasher with a hot water option, I would fill your sink with very hot soapy water and let it soak until the water cools. By then, most of the mold should have come off and you can simply rinse it.

What does a salad spinner do?

A salad spinner washes and takes away extra water from the lettuce/spinach/etc. The lettuce spins around which creates a centrifugal force. This force gets rid of the water.

We have a built-in Kitchen Aid dishwasher Model KUDi24SEBL1. The bottem Spinner arm rocks up and down and is chipping the plates in the bottem rack. What causes this and how do we correct it. We have no...

Put some kind of washer on the spindle to stop the up and down motion of spinner. Manual can be gotten at mfg web site or google search. For the residue I would use a sudsy ammonia cleaner or grease cutter. Or a baking soda paste .
