Recently, I have bought an Acer Extensa 5620z.In user manual says, it supports memory upto 4GB, using two 2GB so-DIMM memory stick (dual-chanel supports).
But I have problem with upgrading.I have installed two 2GB so-DIMM memory stick, bios setup program detect 4096MB memory.But while starting windows vista x64 or x86, a blue screen appears and restarts.
I have changed my windows vista, upgrade my bios to newer version.But my problem already exists.
I really need my computer memory upgraded to 4GB.
Please help me with this problem.
The proclem is that most of the mother boareds manufactures say it supports 4 GB or 8 GB like that but the maximum that a mother board can handle is what they publish
See im my desktops case they say it support up to 4 Gb but if i applay more than 3Gb system crasher i think thats what happen in your casw
Try to see if that memory is supported with your motherboard. The memory has something to do with that problem.
Your laptop only supports 2GB Ram. Dont know where you got your manual from but its wrong. Unless there is a new firmware upgrade to allow it but I doubt it. There are also cerain ram chips your laptop doesnt support. what is the make and model of the ram?
You said you installed 2GB Dimm with a 1GB Memory?? do you mean when you install one of the sticks it only shows up as 1GB?
when you put the 2GB and the 1GB in together does it show up as 2GB in windows or as 3GB?
Have you tried using just a 2GB stick of ram? Try them both seperately to see if one is faulty.
If it shows up as 3GB with the 2 and the 1 and both memory sticks work then either:
The laptop is trying to run the memory in dual channel mode and they are not matched pairs or
you are running a 32-bit operating system which can only address 3 - 3.5GB of ram, I dont spose you have a 64 bit OS handy do you?
If the laptop is in dual channel mode but the 2x 2GB sticks are not matched pairs then it may have the error you described.
Just buying two of the same ram sticks doesnt make them matched pairs and they will not work in dual channel mode.
Try go into your bios setup and see if you can turn off dual channel mode.
I would check with a different version of windows/linux aswell.
Having two of the exact same memory sticks is not a dual channel configuration. you have to buy a package of 2 sticks which are excactly identical. According to most manuals the laptop supports only 2gb in single channel mode. im guessing 4gb must be run in dual channel mode and this is impossible without a proper dual channel kit.
Just be warned that windows may only be able to 'see' 3.5 GB of the 4 GB installed because of the way windows manages the memory.

Is the memory compatiple with the laptop E.G. the laptop may accept ddr pc4200 but the sticks you are trying to put in may be ddr pc5200
Just refer to your laptop manual. If your manual got lost go to the acer website and find your product and download the manual.http://www.acer.com.ph/ac/en/PH/content/home .
when upgrading your memory you have to consider the following:
the processor: if your processor has 4gb compatibility mem you can upgrade upto 6 to 8gb.
take note that you must not exceed to 8gb or else your processor might be damage.
get the processor speed: example core 2 i3 processor, 1.0GHZ-the frequency.
the Memory or RAM(random access memory): get ther specification: example is DDR1 or DDR3
PC133 or PC 400. Thats all.
Note: your current memory must have the same memory module(example PC400,PC 133) or else it wont work.if your going to upgrade your current 4gb PC400 you have to add 4gb memory in PC400 module also.

2GB PC2-6400 800MHz CL5.
Im sure it supports.cause a have installed one of these memories.I installed one 2GB so-DIMM PC2-6400 800MHz CL5 with a 1GB memory.Its working properly.It means my motherboard supports this memory model.But when using two 2GB memory together, it cause problem.Blue screen appears.

It works peroperly using 3GB memory (one 2GB so-DIMM plus a 1GB DDR2 memory).

Im using the same pairs of memory.
two PATRIOT 2GB pc2-6400 800MHz.
there is no option in bios program about dual-chanel mode.
even linux os, couldn't handle this problem.
I have installed Linux Fedora Core 10, but it hangs while starting when using 4GB of memory.
Question:
How about my CPU?
can a CPU case this problem?
My laptop processor is a:
Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2330 (1.60 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache)
by the way I have even tried the memory sticks with diffrent brands.
using a 2GB PATRIOT + a 2GB G-SKILLS memory sticks again cause blue screen on windows startup, and hangs on linux startup.
