This is a caption for hearing impaired, grab remote! scroll down to captions, use right arrow 1,2,3,off when the cursor is flashing over the " off " press enter on the remote, that should restore the set. Some remotes have the captions on a separate button.
Do you have a cable/satellite box connected to this tv?
Try this first it sounds like you have the closed caption turned on by accident. On the remote press the MENU button. Use the navigation keys to move the selector to CC and press OK. This should bring up the Closed Caption sub menu. Ensure that the closed caption is set to OFF
This sounds like the text function is turned on in the closed captioning part of the menu. If the remote has a separate captioning button press that until captioning and text are off. Otherwise the caption/text settings are in the customer menu. Go into the menu to the captioning options & shut captioning/text off and see if this corrects your problem.
This sounds like your closed caption has been activated. There are several closed caption options that aren't used for anything, and if you select one by pressing the cc button on your remote by mistake, it will cause the problem you're having. To fix the issue, locate the cc, ccd, or closed caption button on your remote. Press it until you the option "off" appear on the screen. Once you see "off," simply stop pressing the button and the word "off" will disappear.

Ok, if the video is present around the outside of the black box you have a problem with close captioning. It is stuck in either Text 3 or Text 4 mode. The options for close captioning are CC1, CC2, Text 1, Text 2, Text 3 and Text 4 and of course OFF. Apparently the close captioning is stuck on or is not being properly shut off. Better read the owners manual to see if you are missing a step when turning off close caption.
This is a simple problem, somehow ypu have the closed caption on, either from the remote hit the CC or closed caption button till it says off or find the closed caption in the menu and turn it off
If you mean that you get a black box, with a little of the picture visible around the edges, then your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. This puts a black box on the screen about 10 seconds after changing the channel. Go into the menu and turn off the closed captions and the picture will be back to normal.
