Compaq turns on cap locklight on f12 light on and power light on black screen

Remove the battery, disconnect the power cord then push and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds. Try it again afterwards.

The first thing to always try is resetting your PC. With a laptop, you must unplug it and remove the battery. While the laptop is unplugged and the battery removed, hold down the power button for a minimum of 30 seconds. This will reset the PC. Plug it back in and see if it works now. Always try to reset the PC first, for many different problems.

Whoever wrote the answer to this is awesome. I have the same type of computer and it would not turn on even though the charging light was on. So I took out the battery and unplugged it. Then repeatedly pushed the power button. After that I put the battery back in and pushed the power button and it worked! Thank you sooo much!!

This is a fairly common problem. It sounds as if it ran out of battery. Take the charger to a shop and have it checked.

Perform a Hard Reset first.
Disconnect devices including USB devices and media cards. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery Press and hold the power button 15 seconds . connect the power adapter -do not connect the battery- Press the Power button, Look for blinking LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a disk drive and fan turning.

check the ram. i have the same problem then i remove the ram then re install it back properly

do a power drain 
- shut down the comp, unplug the adaptor and unplug the battery
press and hold the power button without any power connected to the comp
- plug the battery and plug the ac adaptor and turn on the comp

Give this a try -

1. Remove all USB devices such as printers, mp3 players etc etc.
2. Remove the power-cable and the battery
3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
4. Put the power-cable back in but not the battery and none the USB devices.
5. Turn the computer on

Let me know if it doesnt work.

Completely remove the battery and unplug the power cord for a few minutes. Reinsert battery and power up. You can also hit F8 when starting and see if you can boot into safe mode.

Hi there. I've seen this quite a few times. It might be a couple things, but it sounds like the board has gone bad. Have you done a few tests already, trying another video card, and another ram chip? That's what i would try at first. If you don't get anything from that basic testing, it could be a component that's gone bad on the board, or the bios that went corrupted/bad. Such board are usually just replaced. If you have access to a eeprom programmer, one could just remove (if it's socketed) the bios chip off the motherboard and reprogram it with the bin file meant for that board, that can be downloaded from compaq's website in the support section for that specific pc/motherboard. Else, the board could be replaced with a compatible board of the same format and technology, even if it's not from compaq it's good, as long as it physically fits in the case.
