Blank LCD on these models going out are usually due to the PCB connection. I found units I've seen have broken traces or the pins mounted on the PCB have lost their connection to the traces... this is the ribbon cable from the display to the main UPS PCB...
If your Tripp LIte Omni 1000 LCD display a fault icon and beeps after changing the battery, try the advice given by the buzzerman which worked perfect in this case:
1. Turn the UPS on. Press and hold the ON/OFF button for one second.
2. Run a Self-Test: Press and hold the MUTE/TEST button for two seconds (until beeps several times). The test will last 10 seconds. All LCDDisplay icons will be illuminated and the alarm will sound. At the end of this process the fault icon and the beeping turned off.
The UPS needs to have a good DC Buss for it to work. Before you buy the new battery disconnect the battery & unplug it from the wall. Push the on button to reset the logic. You may see the display flash breifly. Install the new battery. Then plug in the UPS and turn it on and enjoy
A little research on the internet will answer your questions about battery replacements and cost. There are numerous sites selling batteries for your particular unit. Do a Google search on the battery type and see what you get. EBay is another possible source for batteries once you determine which size and what ratings you need for your replacements. The best way of determining how to replace the batteries is to open the UPS's case and carefully record how you remove the old batteries and then install the new ones in reverse order. You will have to open the UPS up to get at the batteries to determine type and specs so removal and re-installation should be easy from there.
You most likely need a new battery. Remove the battery and test it. If you dont have the ability to test it take it to an interstate battery store, or any similar battery store and ask them to test it for you.
