GPS doesnt turn on with power cord adaptor or 12v lighter socket

Magellan roadmate 1412 usually boots up when car adapter is connected, using the 110 adapter does turn it on either. Would a completely dead bad battery cause this?

If you can verify that the car charger is ok, try plugging it in to your computer using the usb cable. the 1412 should charge with the usb cable. if it still doesnt turn on, try and reset the unit, little pin hole on the side.

My magellan will not charge from my car, only from my hose.

replace the cigar lighter. some plugs like my new phone will not plug in the lighter socket. It may have a broken contact inside the lighter. about a $10.00 repair job.

Problem charging MAGELLAN GPS.

I found there are select 120v AC adapters that will work on Magellan GPS. When a working 120v or 12v adapter to mini USB adapter is plugged into the unit, the battery bars will be 'scrolling' and therefore charging.

When your adapter, or even USB cable from your computer, is plugged into the GPS unit, and the battery goes to FULL, it is NOT CHARGING. The battery bars must be SCROLLING for the unit to charge. In this case, get a different adapter until it works.

This was tested on a Magellan 1412, and may apply to other Magellan GPS.

look in the tip of the DC charger and see if the fuse has blown. This is usually the case.
Be warned! starting the car with the GPS plugged into DC can blow your SIIRF chip... no more satellites! and an expensive repair. be thankful it was the fuse this time

Magellan 1412 wont turn on

Take the 1412 Gps and place it beneath the drivers rear tire, get your camera and then have your friend film the seen while you back over the Gps, then put it on Youtube. Then go buy a TomTom.
